Not really sure who this is for. Felt like it was written by a middle schooler despite the explicit content. Used words like “shmancy” without any irony and FMC drinks blueberry and green apple martinis on a casual night out. Aesthetic is red and black house, hot topic tween. I’m ok with morally grey, red flag waving book boyfriends but not like this.

I read Haunting Adeline because of all the hype online, and while I went into it curious about what the buzz was about, I ended up giving it a 3/5. Some parts of the book were definitely intriguing, but others were outright disturbing, making it a difficult read for me.
The central premise—falling in love with an abusive stalker—was something I just couldn’t get behind. Throughout the story, I kept asking myself how this dynamic was supposed to work. The romance felt twisted in a way that wasn’t compelling for me, and it was hard to see how the main character could develop feelings for someone who’s so clearly crossing every boundary. It took away from any potential connection I could have had with the characters or their relationship.
There are moments that create tension and build the dark, eerie atmosphere, but the disturbing scenes really overshadowed those aspects for me. I found myself questioning a lot of the choices made in the narrative.
I can understand why some people are drawn to this darker style of romance, but personally, I struggled with the content. If you’re into really dark romance with controversial themes, it might be worth a read, but it wasn’t something I could fully enjoy.
