Haunting Adeline

This book... is way overrated.

I'd like to say that BookTok was right, but I should've known never to trust it. I was really excited to read this after seeing everyone else seem to enjoy it, but Zade Meadows is a hypocritical dick.

This book is riddled with non-consensual scenes where the MMC tells the FMC that she wants him to screw her and that she wants him, after literally stalking her. He LITERALLY forces her into believing that she loves him, and when she tries to defy him at any time, he screws her again, no matter how often she says know.
This is also coming from a man who literally runs an anti-pedo & sex-trafficking organisation. But apparently, if it's a woman he wants and she's giving him a boner, invading her privacy is totally fine as long as he gets to screw her because he wants to and nothing else matters.
Oh- and this man has the CRINGIEST daddy kink I have seen in my entire life, as well as an obsession with wanting to get her pregnant. *shudder* Oh, and must I mention his massive cock that apparently makes everything super difficult and all "IDK if it'll fit UwU~"

Also- what the hell is the deal with the randomly mentally ill psychopathic child all of a sudden?! Like WHAT?!
Parts of the plot were intriguing, but not enough to justify glorified rape and Stockholm syndrome.
The description was boring, and after a while, especially during the smut, phrases because repeated. Frequently. I don't care how wet Adeline is. I already know. She's been that way for the past 500 pages. Shut up.
The last thing I'll mention is that Adeline just feels like a poor attempt at a strong, female main character. And Zade? He may have an occasionally steamy line, but "I'm going to make you mine" isn't as hot from a rapist as it is from and actual lover now, is it?

It was bad and I see what was trying to be achieved but it just wasn't achieved.

DNF, was like 50% through. I just can't be bothered to finish. Its just too much for me.

This book was exactly how everyone said it would be, yes non consensual (but the main character confuses the fuck out of me cus of course she is a rich author who doesn’t have to work) so it’s a weird fucked up read. The murder mystery part was nice, I would say clues for the murderer were there. And this type of cliffhanger ending, I hate.

i cannot for the life of me read more than 20 pages of this at a time. just need more motivation for this and i know i'll pick it back up

I've heard such good things about this book from a horror group and was excited to read this. Unfortunately, the writing was utterly ridiculous. Addie is "falling in love" with her stalker despite him breaking into her home and taking advantage of her sexually. She continuously notes that she is self-aware that she is stupid and making poor decisions in initiating contact with her dangerously violent stalker. The reason given for these choices? He is oh so sexy and knows how to work a clit. Come on!! Why do women have to be written this way? She lacked any redeeming qualities. The novel also tries to show the depth of the stalker's character because, while he treats Addie like garbage, he rescues kidnapped and sex trafficked individuals for work. (So, he's not a completely bad guy!) I don't think I have ever rolled my eyes this hard from reading a book. Apparently, this is the first in a series, but I can't rationalize subjecting myself to another chapter with these characters.
