Man…. This book was a trip. I’ve never read a book with this style of writing before and it was unique, overwhelming, and thought provoking all at the same time. I wish the ending had been a bit different but wow what a wild book. I definitely think it’s a book that every time you reread it you would discover something new..

This is probably a brilliant book, and one I might enjoy reading and discussing with others my age and with my interests. But this was decidedly not the book to read and discuss in the context of a 200-level women's literature course! Our conversations were awkward and challenging, until I said that folks didn't have to finish. Jelinek is a clearly compelling writer and thinker, but whew. A challenge to get through.

This book absolutely floored me. I've never read anything like it, both in terms of prose and story. At times a very gruelling read, it describes a violent, sexually charged power struggle between piano teacher Erika Kohut, her student Walter Klemmer, and her unnamed mother. The subject matter may sound like you're going to read a Smitty book, but in my opinion this is absolutely not the case. Jelineks language is so cold and precise, it feels like you're reading these characters sliced open psyches, and they all have a lot of darkness in them. It's a darkness you don't quite understand, and maybe you don't want to understand. Please take care of yourself when reading, it really is very intense.

an excruciating read. toward the end i really wanted it to be over. still, i was blown away

Pedazo final!! Vale la pena leerlo, es increíble.
