DNF at page 27. Story was a good idea but fell flat in execution. I had to stop reading it because it felt like the author had a thesaurus for every second word; for a book that’s only 100 pages long, it felt like an eternity to get through 25 pages.

This books reads like a fever dream; a very dark fairy tale. A mermaid story unlike any other I have read. Echoes of The Little Mermaid but not the Disney version

I appreciated what this book tried to do. The prose was beautiful and the story had a lot of potential, but in the immortal words of Peter Griffin, "it insists upon itself"

Khaw is undoubtedly a good author and they are absolutely talented, but I think this book was being weird for the sake of being weird. 

Perhaps I'll reread it when im not recovering from wisdom tooth surgery, it is a quick book, but for now Im happy leaving it at "it was a good experience"
