I hated the ending. I dont know why but I never felt sorry for Tess. I wanted Val and Nick together. Tess was a shallow, selfish, snob. I felt bad for Val, and even though she did what was wrong, I felt she deserved happiness.

I really liked this book which was a big surprise for me. I expected this to be another piece of light-minded chick lit reading, just for fun, just to relax, and being a little annoyed by messy writing and improbable plot all along the way :)
But this one made me think, although I have to agree some things about the book were not very realistic and incosequent. But then again, who am I to judge, I haven't been there and sincerely hope I will never be there - caught in the pain and despair of cheating which turned out to be destructive for all the sides.
Generally, the book gave me a lot to ponder on. How do these things happen, and why? Is there any way out? What would I do? What would other people do?
Most important of all, it's a great reminder of how fragile any relationship is, and how we should take care of it and appreciate it before it is too late.

No no no. I didn’t know what this book was about based on the brief synopsis, and I don’t read comments on here before reading. Halfway through the book Valerie tells her brother that she can’t stop seeing Nick. What a load of baloney. I hate cheating stories, and I don’t feel sympathy for people who cheat. It’s not a story I’m interested in reading about.

I'm going to have to think about this one for a bit. I borrowed it from a friend and I'm anxious to talk to her about what she thinks! Also, maybe I should read Baby Proof just to complete the works of Giffin?

For a book written from two points of view, it's weird that one of them is written in "I" and the other one is written in "she."

There is something about Emily Griffin's books that just pulls me in. I can't pinpoint what "it" is exactly, but Heart of the Matter was no different. I listened to this on CD and found myself sitting in the car in the parking lot...just sitting, listening. I hate Nick. I love Tessa. Valerie...well she is somewhere in the middle. And of course there is a great shout out to Shriners. Go Shriners!!

The middle of this book was like an accident about to happen, I couldn't look away even though I knew it wasn't going to be good. The ending surprised me though.

Was left with the same feeling after I read "Love the one you're with". Seems cheating spouses is her favourite theme. Weak unlikeable characters too.
