I went into this story blind, and had no idea what to expect. The author has a beautiful, if macabre way of bringing scenes and descriptions to life, that are then beautifully described by the narrator. This won't be the only Kristopher Triana book I read.

well that was definitely something!
i did not like the pacing of this book at the beginning. it seemed to throw you right in, but not in a positive way; i felt like i was being thrown so much information at the beginning that it was hard to work through it to get to where the story actually picks up.
hated the main character. overall just a terrible person. usually in a story i like to have at least one character i enjoy, and this story had approximately one (the river man himself was, indeed, kinda cool). overall i thought the premise was really cool, but i wasn’t a huge fan of the execution. or the incest. stop jumpscaring me with incest, horror books. it’s like a 2/5. it was gross in a cool way. i’ve never gagged at just a description before, so that was nice. yes, it was the chest scene. but the rest of it was … not cool!

I’ve never been more uncomfortable reading something in my entire life. I want to give it a five only for that but on a book platform I can’t because it simply is not. But this book wrecked me.
