I don't think I've cried that hard in a long time.

The nuance Jasmin writes with is amazing. Maybe it's because I'm Punjabi too, but the fears that are voiced by the characters, the lives that they live, all hit so close to home. Never really felt seen before as I did when reading this.

If I Tell You The Truth is such a beautifully written tale, with a mix of both prose and poetry. Lined with emotion, the story follows Kiran Kaur and later, her daughter Sahaara. I have absolutely no words for how I felt while reading this. This is a book I’d recommend to anyone (do look up tws beforehand though) of any age. Loved this. New favourite book <333

This book was incredible. The story of a mother who is forced to flee her home in Punjab. She's headed to college in Canada, however, she holds a secret that once out, changes her life forever. The story is also told from the pov from the perspective of Kiran's daughter, Sahaara, and her path to discovering herself, her own identity and helping her mother discover her voice. The story is told through poetry/prose/illustrations. The story runs the gamut from sexual assault, police brutality, immigration trauma and struggles, domestic violence, alcoholism, depression & anxiety. There is a love story that brews throughout the story and doesn't overshine/detract from the story. I could not put this book down. I read it late into the night. I cheered, cried and laughed along with Kiran and Sahaara. Definitely one for the library collection.

**Trigger Warnings:
Spoiler sexual assault, police brutality, immigrant trauma, victim-blaming, domestic violence, alcoholism, depression, anxiety**

This book was intense and it was a lot to take in. I read this book in a little bit over 24 hours so all of its contents are swirling around in my head, but it was so captivating that I had to keep going.

I'm not going to describe it great detail what this about, because it will be triggering to some people, but the story told in this book is an important one.

These characters were lovable and I ached for them. I felt the pain through the authors writing and I just wanted to do something to help them even though they are fictional.

This book is so good. I cannot say it enough. There is so much emotion in the audiobook as well since the author narrates the story.

Heavy and emotional. Definitely a book I would recommend for people who do not get triggered by it.

Thank you for this work!
