Last Tang Standing

Lauren Ho

This was a fun read that gave me a view into a culture I would have little exposure to. This year has been quite the eye opener in terms of how insular my life is - how little "other" I have been exposed to. And to be exposed with a humorous story is probably the best way! I will likely add other Lauren Ho books to my stack.

cute story. Main character was very childish, considering her age.

DEFINITELY A FIVE STAR READ!!!

I just could not get into this book. The very beginning where she attends a family event only to be shamed, guilt tripped, and filled with toxic, manipulative behaviors of others who have her best intentions in mind was just not something I wanted to be a part of. I understand that it was supposed to be a stereotypical depiction of the family dynamic within that culture, but I have also experienced similar behaviors (not revolving around the same subject matter) and I don't stand for it, fiction or not.

the beginning was sooooo slow!!! idk if it’s just cause i read Crazy Rich Asians but i didn’t need the introduction to Singapore or Aunties you know?

I loved the culture in this book, but I think it was missing some of the enemy buildup and the diary style writing got a little exhausting about 3/4 of the way through. I liked the story overall, and the characters were likeable; however, the book just didn’t quite standout to me.

Rating: 4.5

This book was hilarious! If you love rom-coms you should stop what you’re doing right now and READ IT! You won’t regret it, I promise. What surprised me the most about this book was that it had some tropes that I normally avoid (like love triangles) yet, somehow, Ho makes it work so well that I enjoyed every second if it.

My only complain was the ending, it felt a bit rushed? Don't get me wrong, it doesn't end bad or anything, I just didn't like how it was handled.
