I really wanted to like this one. But I couldn't.

The comparisons to Bridget Jones and Crazy Rich Asians were accurate, however our heroine lacked the charm of Bridget and her Singaporean crew were too obnoxious to be likable. The only redeemable character was Suresh and at times only marginally.

The plot itself was predictable, tiresome, and littered with cultural references that usually I would get really excited about but then was explained so it no longer felt like a cool special club us Asians belonged to.

Again, I really, really wanted to like this one. But I just couldn't.

The main character was so hard to like. Bridget Jones Diary meets Crazy Rich Asians but not at all a new take. Wouldn’t read again.

This really is Bridget Jones meets Crazy Rich Asians. Such a fun read!

Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. VERY much a Bridgette Jones’s diary retelling.

Andrea Tang is a thirty year old successful lawyer, but in the eyes of her traditional Chinese/Malaysian family, she cannot be truly successful without a husband and kids. Andrea is competing for a partner positions with Suresh, a transplant from the London branch of the firm, engaged to Anousha, but having some confusing chemistry with Andrea. There are many additional characters like Linda, Andrea’s best friend. There were some very funny parts in the book focusing on Andrea’s attempts at finding the right man. I did feel the book would appeal to a younger audience than older, but all in all, it was a fun read. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

A little too much Bridget Jones not enough Crazy Rich Asians. Pretty predictable.
