The secret garden is a wonderful little story about slowing down, noticing the small wonders around you, and appreciating them. This book reminds me of a mix  between Jane Eyre and Tolkien's writings, but for kids. A journey through an English moor, with a large house with mysteries inside of it, with so much beautiful descriptions of the natural beauty that the English countryside can offer. I did find the chapters that detailed the children being disagreeable to be a bit of a drag to get through, and some racist comments came out of nowhere which was disappointing. I wish it focused more on the beauty of their world, as those chapters were so beautiful and made me want to leap into the pages and live in them. This book had great lessons about life, and I read it at the perfect time during spring, when the bulbs have started pushing out of the ground, and the birds sing their songs. The gardens, whether secret or not, are right now growing.

It’s exactly as I would have expected a classic about a spoiled girl that changes. It ends with a boy being the star lol. Meh, I could have lived without it.
