Not much really happens but such a classic. I loved the film when I was small so was cute to read it.
A beautifully written English literature classic. In this tale the author tells, not just a wonderfully poignant story but with such attention to details it pulls the reader into the work while reading. All the major characters are given such distinct personalities they come to life. Although considered a children's story I found it to be extremely enjoyable. The author begins the story with Mary Lennox born to a wealthy British couple who reside in India, they are indifferent to little Mary. Without nurturing she is withered and unfeeling towards others. When she becomes an orphan, she is removed to England, a quite extensive estate located near the moors, to reside with her uncle and guardian Archibald Craven. Mary soon discovers her cousin Colin, who is similar in disposition but due to different circumstances. Together the pair, along with another child of the moors Dickon, who seems magical to them as he understands the cycle of life in living plants and animals, they both change from weeds to blossoming flowers themselves. The secret garden is magical and the magic is in the children themselves, there is much to be learned from this novel.

I really enjoyed it! I read this book mostly so I could have another layer of appreciation for The Misselthwaite Archives - the modern adaptation - and I can't wait to see what they do with it!
I loved this book as a child, and I still loved it.
Mary Lennox a sickly little orphan (don't worry the book will remind you time and time again that she gets "plump" ). Sent to live with her mysterious uncle, she soon learns that Misselthwaite Manor has a secret.
As a child I remember being scared when Mary goes looking for Colin, looking forward to meeting Dickons mother, and waiting patiently for Colin to show his father how strong and strait backed he was.
Great story for young and old

Mary and Colin are giving you 1900s Junie B. Jones and No, David! hahaha They were some of the most entitled children in the world. Of course, this was due to being surrounded by both horrendous adults and absentee parents.
I adored watching them grow and become better people through fresh air, accountability and "magic" aka affirmations and manifestation!
Now, this book was published in like 1911, so the casual racism is a bit insane. I honestly just had to chuckle sometimes hahaha However, I still think it's a wonderful story! Shout-out to Susan! Mother to all💕

This book is extremely slow and boring. The dialect the author uses is extremely hard to understand. The only good thing about the book is that it conveys a good message about getting outside.
