Very heartwarming story, more of the kind of thing that I think is helpful for me to read right now, stories of overcoming and redemption.

There is some racism in the book, which is probably good to know about. British colonial occupation of India was apparently a big thing during this author's time.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I don't think I read this book as a child, which is weird because gardening has been my mother's passion from she was born.

Anyway, it is no mystery that this story has become one of the great classics.
It's a children's book, but at the same time, it's not.
Listening to this story as an adult will most likely paint another picture than if I read this as a child.

It's such a beautiful story.
Absolutely wonderful.

Not to forget about the narration. Carrie Hope Fletcher did a stellar job bringing this to life.
Really, really good.

This will not be the last time I listen to this book.

THIS BOOK is the definition of childhood. Big dreams, full of innocence, love, magic of childhood, friendships and family. I have vague memory of reading this book when I was younger, and reading it again renewed and revived my heart the way Mary, Dickon, and Colin brought back the secret garden. Would be an amazing spring read right after winter. It's like Jane Eyre meets Anne of Green Gables, but still unique in it's own way. I wish more children read classics like these, that could preserve their childhood innocence. Reading it as adult again and still loving it reminds me that I still have that childhood belief in love and hope preserved, and it also reminds me of C.S. Lewis's quote "no book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally - and often far more - worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond. " This book was worth it.

“Th’ Magic listened when tha’ sung th’ Doxology. It would ha’ listened
to anything tha’d sung. It was th’ joy that mattered. Eh! lad,
lad—what’s names to th’ Joy Maker,” and she gave his shoulders a quick
soft pat again.
My favorite book as a child.
Loved listening to it on audiobook.
