Giving this three stars feels so fake in light of how invested I am lmao. It just felt like an in-between book needed to get paige to the point she’s at now. There were still some great parts especially towards the end

Officially obsessed. Is this how people felt about the da vinci code?

Also a little frustrating in light of current politics to read about a community of people who consistently act against their own interests in order to facilitate maximum prejudice and cling to status quo... it do be like that though.

Technically speaking, the writing improves in leaps and bounds each book. However, this book shares the same major problem as its predecessors: the crisis continues to escalate.

Spoiler It takes a deus ex machina to get Paige out of the corner into which she is written and one can't escape the conclusion that this is going to continue throughout the series. (The whole world doesn't need to be ending in a new and creative way each chapter).

This book also reads like a video game. There's an escort mission, an infiltrate-the-warehouse-then-fight-your-way-out chapter, a 'pick-your-side' ethics quest that has 'implications for the rest of your game'. This is not meant as a criticism, by the way, more of a fascinated comment on the impact games and game narrative seems to be having on fiction.

It's a good read despite the above flaws, but it pays not to think too deeply...

This series is so original and feels so fresh that it makes me so giddy that even the third book still manages to top the one before it. The stakes keep getting higher and the character growth is so well written. Can’t wait to read on!
