So many mysteries uncovered....
Matthew, man, his story is so sad. Like, even I had started having doubts about his birth. And no, I didn't suspect Charlottes betrayal or anything, cuz thats just impossible. But I did think that perhaps Matthew was adopted or something, because what Alastair said about his hair got my bearings moving....oof...and now I dont even know who to be angry at for the death of Charlottes baby except that stupid faerie woman.
Has anyone wondered how Cassandra Clare managess to write characters who make huge mistakes and do terrible things but we STILL end up liking them? Like Matthew, Alastair, Jessamine, Ty...HOW DOES SHE DO THAT?!
Anna Lightwood, my goddess, I worship her. Awesome. Just awesome. I should be mad at Adrianne for breaking mah Annas heart, but I cant deny, I loved the way she transformed after that. I loved how Gabriel and Cecily were joking about the better waistcoat in the end. I. Loved. It.
Lily...oof...she was great in the start, and the that thule Jace, 'Janus' screwed her up. Janus, I just wanna tell you, of you're screwed up, why screw up everyone else?!
Tessa and Jem were awesome as usual, and when Wills ghost made an appearance, my heart broke, you could hear the tiny pieces break like glass.

It feels like Cassandra Clare said to these writers: “You can write a Shadowhunter short story, but don’t forget that Jem and Tessa really really love each other! So mention it at least every other sentence! And... go!”
And then she would come back to add. “Oh wait, Will. Don’t forget Will! NEVER forget Will HERONDALE!”

Son of the Dawn:
2 stars. Not the best novella but I loved all of Jem's musings on life, and I loved seeing Raphael. I wasn't the hugest fan of kid Isabelle's POV but it was cute to see their dynamic develop as kids. The best parts were Jem thinking about Will. I didn't care much about this story but I really want to read the next two about The Last Hours characters so I figured I'd read this one first.
Cast Long Shadows:
4 stars. Loved this story. Love Matthew Fairchild, love James, love Lucie, love Christopher, SO EXCITED to meet Cordelia. This is the Shadowhunter story I've been waiting for for years. She's really milking these stories for all they're worth, and it's getting hella annoying but The Last Hours will never annoy me, thankfully. The secret Matthew carries is so sad. The whole thing is so sad. Charlotte and Henry might have had a little girl. I loved the moment at the end with Will and Jem. It was so painful and beautiful. It made me want to reread TID. But not sure I will for a while. I also loved that Matthew has a puppy. So excited for the next story to meet Anna! That was a cool moment when Matthew said that Gabriel loves Anna and Christopher but that he doesn't understand them. I like that they're the weird kids.
Every Exquisite Thing:
5 stars. This was amazing. Anna is such an awesome character. I loved all the moments about self-knowledge and not being afraid to be who you are. I really liked Ariadne. I hope that in the actual series they get back together. I am sure we will see her married to Charles. I liked seeing Gabriel and Cecily as parents. Cecily is such a good mom. The mystery about Tessa's father is cool too. That'll probably be revealed in the actual series. I'm super glad to have this novella series, as I am most excited for this Shadowhunter series. I think Cassie is just riding the coattails of her own fame in writing all these series about the Shadowhunters. I don't really care about TDA beyond Mark, Cristina, and Kieran. I'll finish it for them and also because I ship Kitty so I need to know how this series finishes to be able to read their romance in TWP. And I'll read the Malec books because Malec. But the only ones I won't resent at all will be The Last Hours. Give me all of it.
Learn About Loss:
2.5 stars. This story was okay. Kind of short. I liked seeing Emilia, the famous Iron Sister, and seeing Belial again. Though I forgot why he owed Jem a debt. Interesting to know that Kit has faerie blood. I'm excited to see how that plays out. The Heronstairs vision at the end was murderous and wonderful and this story existed entirely for that and I am so happy we got to read that. It was so freaking cute. TID has always been my favorite of the Shadowhunter stories so I loved seeing Will and Jem together again like that.
A Deeper Love:
4.5 stars. Sooooo good, oh my gosh. This brought me back to my love of the Shadowhunters world that I kind of lost with The Dark Artifices. I'm not entirely sure what I don't like about it. I like all the characters but the atmosphere is just so melancholy, and Cassie's books are SO LONG now it's just draining to read an overhanging sadness for that long. And also, I think she's just sucking every penny she can get out of this series. Take a break, write something else, come back in a few years. But The Infernal Devices was always my favorite Shadowhunter series and probably will remain so even after all the books are published. I loved that Tessa and Jem were the main points of view in this story. I didn't realize how much I missed them until now. I've been reading these stories just to keep up with the world, and because I like Jem, but Jem and Brother Zachariah aren't the same. It was nice to have the old Jem back in this story. Tessa made him human again. Plotwise, it was cool to learn more about Kit's heritage. I accidentally skipped this one and went straight to The Wicked Ones, so this filled in some of the holes reading that one first left in my understanding. Obviously this is going to be a plotpoint in The Wicked Powers, but I wonder if it will come into play in Queen of Air and Darkness. That's gonna be a draining book, I can tell. Anyway, on to the last two stories since I'm wayyyy behind on my reading challenge. Had I added these novellas separately I wouldn't have that problem, but I feel like listing every novella is cheating, hahaha.
The Wicked Ones:
2.5 stars. I accidentally skipped A Deeper Love, GASP. I'm gonna read that next. This was an interesting story just because Céline is such a grey character. I can't decide if I like her or dislike her. I guess that's exactly how I feel. I don't like or dislike her. My favorite thing about the story was that we got to see some of the workings of The Circle. I still hope The Secret Treasons gets written sometime. I think the characters and dynamic of The Circle is really interesting. I also liked Rosemary Herondale a lot, and I like the info we got on Kit. Obviously Jack Crow is Johnny Rook. But I wonder what happened to Rosemary. Obviously she found Jack again and they had Kit, but I don't remember if Lady Midnight talked about what happened to Kit's mom. That little tease of A Deeper Love made me really excited to read it. It wouldn't be a tease if I'd read them in order but I messed up, so on to it now.
The Land I Lost:
5 stars. I have tears in my eyes, oh my gosh. The end scene with Magnus and Alec and Max and Rafe was so stinkin cute, I can't. I just love Alec Lightwood, okay? He's such a great hero. I'm actually so freaking excited now to read about him and Magnus for THREE WHOLE BOOKS. Man, this novella really smacked me in the face with how much I used to love these books. The Dark Artifices really messed it up for me. But I don't want to pollute this glowing review with talking about a series I don't really like. UGH that was just great. Alec is so noble and selfless and humble. I loved the part when he told Magnus he just wanted to be worthy of coming home to them, and Magnus just became a love beacon. This was just flawless basically. I'm really excited to read about their family in The Eldest Curses. Rafe is so cute and Max is so cute. I just can't get enough of them. I also loved seeing The Mortal Instruments crew. Jace and Alec's friendship was so cute, and I loved seeing Clary and Simon and Isabelle together, and Clary and Alec skipping out for tacos was great. I love them. Also Lily was so cute and I enjoyed the Raphael emotions. As far as the plot, it obviously is heavily connected to The Dark Artifices, with all the racism within the Clave. But the way this ended really makes me think the series may have a happy ending. I can actually imagine Alec becoming Inquisitor and him being able to marry Magnus. The Dark Artifices is so dark and melancholy, I started to think this series is just going to be sad. I am thinking now that The Dark Artifices is the dark center of a story and that it will get better from here, because strangely this novella made me see the big picture. Cassie is trying to tell a story of the darkness of humanity and politics and good triumphing, but that it takes time and TDA is hopefully the bottom of that story. Hopefully we'll start to go up after that's done. The reveal about Kit was also crazy. I had no inkling that he was part faerie, but I'm really excited to see how that plays out in The Wicked Powers. Obviously Faerie is going to be a big plot line in that, regarding Kit and Dru and Ash. The last obviously wonderful thing about this was seeing Jem and Tessa be so in love. It was just adorable and so happy. I'm excited for them to have kids because I totally think it will happen. It made me miss TID so much. That was and probably will always be my favorite Shadowhunter series. Final note: Juliette and Joaquín were cute.
Through Blood, Through Fire:
5 stars. Definitely one of the best, maybe the best novella in this collection. I loved the story of Rosemary Herondale, and that was some fantastic background to The Dark Artifices. It brought us right up to the TDA timeline and now we have all this info about Kit. All that fourth wall breaking about how bad it's going to get in the world. I was totally right about TDA being the dark center of the story of the Shadowhunters. I mean, I guess it's gonna get even worse than TDA in The Wicked Powers??? That story about Kit is crazy too. He's Kieran's brother. I actually love that. I'm excited to read about him as a main character. Tessa and Jem were also perfect in this one. I love seeing them together. I'd love to read more about them just being happy and in love. I'm also so excited to meet their kid and for him or her to be friends with Rafe and Max. Honestly this needs to end happy. This series needs to stop being made of pain.
As a whole, I'll give the collection 3 stars. There were stories I LOVED and stories I didn't like so much, so it averages out. I'm glad I finally finished these. Really it was just to make me less behind in my reading challenge, but now I know I can definitely love this series again after TDA is over. That one just isn't for me.

this book was PERFECT!! my jem carstairs loving heart is so full. this might just be one of my favorite books by Cassandra Clare <3
This short story anthology follows Brother Zachariah throughout his life in the Shadowhunter chronicles books. I can't say much due to the fact that this does follow a certain favorite character of mine through all the Shadowhunter's series. You do have to read every Shadowhunter book to be able to read this one.
All this stories in this got a five out of five stars from me. The particular character that is followed in this is my favorite character in all of Cassandra Clare's series so I was excited to get to experience this book. If I had to choose my favorite stories they would be The Land I Lost and Forever Fallen.
I though that this anthology had a great exploration of love throughout lifetimes and the way it manifests. This short story collection also added so much to the Shadowhunter world in general as it brought in concepts that are new to this world and that will be played out in later series that Cassandra Clare is going to release.
Overall, this is a must read for anyone who loves the Shadowhunter world. It has madd me more hyped for the next series that are coming out in this world.

Amé cada una de las historias, y yo que pensaba que iba a ser aburrido. Gran lección nada de lo que escribe está señora va ser aburrido.
