"A new soul made of you and Tessa," Will said. "I can hardly wait to meet such a paragon." "Do you see him too?" Tessa whispered.
"I see him," Jem said, and he held her even more tightly against him, the new life they had created together between them.”

A lot of the stories in this book made me cry because it has my three most favorite characters. And I'm still not over the fact that Jem and Tessa have finally found each other, and Will is cheering wildly up in the Heavens for both of them. I AM A HUGE SOBBING MESS. I WILL ALWAYS BE A HERONGRAYSTAIRS TRASH. MY JESSA BABIES FINALLY GOT THEIR HAPPILY EVER AFTER. The last couple of stories absolutely killed and resurrected my heart.

It makes me want to reread the entire TID all over again for the nth time, but I don't think my heart could handle it.

I liked this book but I really, really didn’t understand why 90% of this was Jem walking around a Shadow Market overthinking about Tessa and Will. It was sort of repetitive. The thing is a lot of these stories had no purpose. Especially the one about the Tessa and Caterina Loss during World War 2. I skipped through a lot of these pages just out of boredom. One story I did actually really like was the one about Céline Montclaire, Jace’s mom. We finally got to know about what kind of person she was and what she was like. I especially wanted to know about Stephen Herondale and her relationship with him. I think that was the only story I really liked and to be honest with you, it should have been included in the Mortal Instruments a long time ago. The one story with Anna Lightwood was decent because I really liked reading about Cecily Herondale and I wanted an update on her life. It was, however, still not good with the constant references about Will Herondale and how much Jem missed him. There weren’t enough stories related to the Dark Artifices as well.

this was a wonderful novella collection, for the past-what? 7 books?- I've been craving jem content so goddamn much; and ITS FINALLY HERE
this book served tlh teasers, so much pain, but also so many heartwarming and beautiful moments
there were cool action scenes, romance scenes etc, but one of my favourite things about this book was the cameos. Aside from the glory that is Jem and Tessa, there was Malec, MATTHEW FAIRCHILD , Anna Lightwood, Caterina, James and Lucie, Ragnor, Lily Chen, Rafael, RAPHAEL. Sister Emilia, Cecily and Gabriel, Kit, Ty, Livvy, mina!, Ash, so so many favs that I thought I wasn't gonna see again.
And I cant talk about this without mentioning the sheer happiness that came with Mina and all to do with it, i cant put into words how happy that makes me feel ugh
thank you book and thank you Lily for brother snackariah. and a personal fav, peanut butter and jem sandwich. miss Chen you are the gift that keeps on giving.

Cast Long Shadows - 2*

This is the first story in my edition and I didn’t love it. Despite Matthew being 15 e reads younger than that 12ish maybe? While the story is important to the overall plot of the next trilogy the events come off as improbable to me. On top of this, this is the 15th book in this series. No one is picking this book up without reading at least one other book so WHY am I having basic shit like what a silent brother is to me again. I did however appreciate the recap on family relations from the infernal devices. Shadowhooligans is my favourite thing from this story.

Every Exquisite Thing 4*

I really liked this. I think it gave a better feel for the characters that the first story. However, I do still think the character reads young although older than the characters in the previous story. I think this story does show a good amount of development and as I said introduces the character very well. I also like how it shows a bit more of the "lore". I do think the idea of loving too quickly only to get your heart broken is a good teen story line but I do wish it had taken a bit more time. That being said it worked well and I liked the representation of an LGBT person living in a time where that was not accepted. It showed that many LGBT people would have gone into marriages they didn't care for as that was the done thing and it showed that many LGBT people broke the norm too at least in what ways they could. Obviously with a bit of shadowhunter flair.

Learn About Loss 3*
I really liked this. I don't think it adds much really except Jem learning information. However, I think it did that well. I think the atmosphere is really well done, I liked seeing an Iron Sister and I liked the interaction with the Greater Demon. Generally, this was just good fun.

A Deeper Love 4*
Again, is this overly "needed" - no. However, it serves Tessa finding out about the Herondales. It gives us a glimpse and Tessa and Jem between TID and TDA and we see more of Catrina. So I really liked it. I think we need to see more of Jem and Tessa before they are reunited to make that believable. I do like the war setting and I think it was done well (as a Brit). My one complaint is Tessa seems to forget her children exist for this entire story. She keeps thinking about being alone and while I appreciate you can feel alone and have loved ones. At no point does the love for her children show through. Which I think was odd.

The Wicked Ones 5*

I really liked this story. The Circle are a group we never see in the main series in their heyday. I think this short story really adds to the lore of the Shadowhunter world. In particular, it is nice to see a different perspective. A lot of the circle are depicted as bored privileged kids who really have no reason to become hateful bigots which is fine, people are bigots with no good reason. However, I do think it is important to show that terrorist groups often go after the vulnerable and Celine is that character. Her story is tragic and sad and you understand why she got to the point of being in the circle. You understand it even if her actions are heinous. It's a story of abuse, of survival and sadly, hatred.

Son of the Dawn 2*
I want to like this. I love the original trilogy even though it isn't the best anymore. So getting more of these characters, YES. I just felt this didn't add anything? It was nice to see Alec and Izzy meeting Jace but I didn't love it at all. Meh is the word to describe it. Also, Jace has to be the wittiest 10 year old ever. I wish his quippy comments had been toned down a bit.
adventurous emotional funny lighthearted mysterious relaxing sad fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes

I really didn't want this book to end. (Clearly took me 7 to finish the last 2 stories) Jem is my favourite character in the shadowhunter universe.

Tbh I would give all Cassie Clare books 5 stars but I need to have a scale, lol.

I really enjoyed this book (especially because Jem is my favorite character) but some bits were just kinda meh. So anyways below is all my ratings for the different short stories.

honestly i always liked book additions/novellas or whatever you want to call them
they're very light read and they show you the back story of the other characters
i loved jem's story throughout the centuries and how he finally ended up with the love of his life. he deserves it.
also i love love love the jack crow and rosemary love story that shit is adorable
and excuse me sir i am killing anyone who hurts my baby kit, seriously bro stop hurting that child.
but like, he's such a HERONDALE. like this random guy holds you at knife point when you first meet, you fall in love with him but then go to the other side of the planet because he doesn't love you back? sounds about right.

anyway have a nice day

wait no don't
janus is pissing me off, and cassie, you didn't JUST end the book with 'wicked powers' did you?
