1. Son of dawn 5/5
2. Cast long shadows 5/5
3. Every exquisite thing 5/5
4. Learn about loss 5/5
5. A deeper love 3.5/5
6. The wicked ones 4/5
7. The land I lost 5/5 (this was my favorite story of this book it's beyond amazing)
8. Through blood, through fire 4.5/5
I realized that there are two more stories which are not included in my version of this book and I'm mad. But as soon as I get my hands on them I'll add them to this review.
⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD ⚠️
The book in general was really beautiful and deserved the 5 stars I gave to it.
The absence of Will Herondale my all time favorite shadowhunter hurt me too much.
Turns out now that Will is gone I care very little about Jem and Tessa's relationship.
It physically hurts me to see them go on without him but that's just my personal opinion.
I like jem and Tessa separately but not together.
In my mind Tessa will always be Will's girl.
Story #7 though made my heart so happy the story of How Alec and Magnus adopted their second child Rafael. Brilliant.
I also got the audio book. every story had a different narrator with different accents resembling the character the story was about, which was amazing.

amazing as every single one of Cassies books
amazing as every single one of Cassies books
i think this was my favourite collection of shadowhunter stories
I listened to this book on audible. I enjoyed it. It was fun to see the “in between”. It would seem as if perhaps there is a new contemporary being set up?

[a:Cassandra Clare|150038|Cassandra Clare|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1270502031p2/150038.jpg] continues to suck me in and never let go. I will forever be taken with her books, especially those Shadowhunter related. Maybe it's nostalgia or maybe it's the great sense of a familiar story. Nevertheless, I don't think I'll ever grow out of Clare's books. This novella collection is meant to be a companion for [b:Chain of Gold|17699853|Chain of Gold (The Last Hours, #1)|Cassandra Clare|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1571379245l/17699853._SY75_.jpg|19212510] and notates stories from several of the characters detailed in The Last Hours.
Chain of Gold was a slightly confusing novel for me and the first two novellas gave me a better sense of the characters. My grievance with Clare's novella collections is that they are necessary reads in order to understand the major series ([b:Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy|28954137|Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy|Cassandra Clare|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1454864103l/28954137._SY75_.jpg|46924845] was one such collection that has a fair amount of details for The Dark Artifices). Novellas should be companions to series at large and those that don't read these novellas are missing a large number of important details.
Jem Carstairs is practically the main character in this collection. I do admire that Clare chooses a certain theme of story and weaves that in each individual novella. Jem is dead set on finding the lost Herondale and each story has a piece of his adventure within it. While I love nothing more than reading about Jem and Magnus Bane, there was a sense of duty while reading this. I felt like I had to read this to fulfill my dutiful reader complex. At times the stories dragged on and were less of a fun read versus sets of tales deeply rooted in adventure. I think a 3.5-star rating is a fair match for this collection. Shadowhunter content is wonderful, but sometimes I think there is great mystery in not having to know every detail of a character's background.

I absolutely loved the stories in this book, especially how they are all linked in some way, and they all feature Jem! I can't wait for 'The Wicked Powers'!
