so i re-read the infernal devices over christmas which was so nostalgic for me. then found out that this anthology had jem front and centre which is basically the only reason i read this.
this was such a comfort read for me. jem will forever be one of my favorite book characters of all time and i love that we got to see his life as a silent brother and then his future with tessa. i love their found family and them making their own way in the world together. overall, i enjoyed all the fluff and the evolution of what the shadow markets meant for them.
some of the stories in the second half were a bit confusing for me because i haven't read TDA or the second half of TMI but that's fine because i didn't really care for it. for the most part it didn't really take away from the story even if i'd prefer a book entirely dedicated to jem's adventures.

SPEECHLESS!! ONE OF THE BEAT BOOKS I’VE READ THIS YEAR!
This was...a typical shadowhunter book?
Basically if you love Jem and shadowhunters, you're gonna love this. The stories range from 1901 to 2013 is many different countries but all featuring the shadow market (hence the title).
I don't really know what to say without spoiling the whole thing but it was an enjoyable read.
If you're planning on reading the wicked powers when it comes out in a billion years time, you definitely need to read this (but not before dark artifices as the last two stories spoil the ending of those).

This book accomplished what it set out to do. I am now not only hyped for the Chain of Gold series, but also the Wicked Powers series!!
The first half of Ghosts of the Shadow Market was definitely a lot better than the second half, but either way I'm pleasantly surprised by this! I was dreading this going into it; for some reason I thought Kit was the main character and all the stories would be about his life growing up in the Shadow Markets? Not sure where I got that idea from, but imagine my utter delight when I opened this book to find that it's actually following Jem, AKA Brother Snackariah/Brother Sixpackariah/Brother Hop-in-the-sack-ariah, also known as one of the greatest things Cassandra Clare has gifted to this planet. I loved seeing more of Jem and Tessa's life together, their backstory, and where they were during the times in between. I started to care less once we got more into stuff in the 2000s, but that's just personal preference. Although I did also really love seeing Kit build a relationship with Jem and Tessa, that was really heart warming.
Overall, a surprisingly great read and I'm glad I finally picked it up! I laughed out loud, I cried several times, and just generally had a really good time reading this

Incredible. That is all I have to say. I loved this collection so so so much. Seeing so many different characters. And seeing Jem and his transformation from silent brother to Hem through his eyes. Just perfection.
Jem and Alec are my favorites, so no surprise I loved this. It might be impossible for me to rate Shadowhunter books objectively at this point, but this is one of my favorites.
told myself I wouldn’t read it before my exams finished but I lied so it’s jems fault I failed maths :’)
who know a collection of short stories could make me THIS emotional and trying hard not to scream in the middle of the night but here i am.
Any time an Infernal Devices character is even mentioned I cry, so you can imagine how tear-stained this book is.
