Ok, now I am officially addicted to Daniel Silva books. Gabriel Allon is a character that possesses many interesting possibilites in the future. Really enjoyed this one.

Love stories are the proverbial fly in the ointment of spy novels. One of the many things that made Silva's "The Unlikely Spy" so great was that the romantic entanglements of the plot never halted it from moving forward. Whereas if you make but a few changes to "The Kill Artist," you'd have a full blown romance novel masquerading as an espionage tale. Now don't get me wrong, this was a good book and I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be plowing through the Gabriel Allon series at some point soon. Nevertheless, I hope future ones are less on romance and more on plotting.
Easy to keep reaching for, like a bag of potato chips - with the same guilty feeling after finishing the entire bag. But hey, after I wash off my greasy and salt pulverized fingers, I'll probably pick up potato chips again too.
The plot struck me as very similar to John Le Carre's Little Drummer Girl

After completing The Kill Artist I felt lifeless, and drained. Which is quite unusual for me. Another uncanny thing about this book is that it established a blistering 5/5 average rating right from the start. In this book it is 90% clear who we are supposed to side with. More unusual aspects of this unusual book is that the seemingly condemned character doesn't die. Also the hero doesn't perform much in the vicinity of heroics. I felt sad after reading The Kill Artist. I should not. The book wasn't geared for that. It's a freaking thriller. But below the exciting surface, there's the stirrings of unhappiness, sad endings, forsaken dreams, and moral meanderings.
It was too hard to get into to, so I didn't read it.
My first Allon book. It started a bit slow as the characters were set up and background was explained, but about 1/3 of the way in I was hooked and didn’t want to put it down. Allon is an art restorer and Israeli spy who comes out of retirement to try and take down a long time enemy and restore the reputation of israel’s intelligence service. Well-paced and exciting with a twist I did not expect.
