Rounded up from a 4.75. Dickens is one of my favourite authors. Although it often takes me longer to read his books, and I sometimes have to re-read certain passages to understand them properly. He writes win a beauty I’ve never seen paralleled.
This is one of my favourite Dickens novels. It made me laugh and cry, and the plot twist completely shocked me, I just did not see it coming. This book showed the good and evil in this world, expressed through amazingly vivid characters.
This book was difficult to read at times. But it was so beautiful, with such a compelling story to tell, that I have so much love for it.

The characters are enterteining, and their story is cute and written with big socjal ambitions, but you can really tell that he was paid for the word. Worst Dickens so far.
Why classify this novel in children's literature? I am not convinced that this is the category that corresponds. It took me a while to get into this novel because we did not understand the style immediately. Will there be several adventures utterly independent of each other? As the chapters read, since, in the end, they are chapters; we realize that there will be a continuous story and that all these little adventures lead to a final scene. Characters continually add, and it is not always easy to remember the good ones (those who will return in the following pages). Still, after a few returns and some memory efforts, one settles well in the London of Mr Pickwick and Pickwickians, and we follow their adventures with pleasure. We laugh all the way and never get bored.

The first half: "misery, sadness, humor, abuse, sadness, now I'm miserable, should i stop?, Simon Vance is a great reader, i never want to hear him in Smike's voice again, etc etc."
The last half: "looking up, dragging, why are we still on these people, alright i guess that's happy, alright alright."
You almost feel bad for Ralph Nickleby, the man he could have been if only, if only... 'if only' seems to be a constant theme in this book, and that may be the saddest thing.
Yet what misery listening to this book was! I can't think I'd ever read this again.
There is something about Nicholas and Kate that pull 3 stars from me tho. And Newman Noggs may be my favorite. No redemption arc has my heart like his.

Dickens always weaves such a spell, this one had great villains you were waiting to get their comeuppance.
This might sound awful, but I just couldn't be bothered listening to this. I might come back to it at some point, but it seemed like a more boring version of David Copperfield.
Well Dickens doesn't shy away from the meanness the humanity might posses. Although the roles a little too black and white, but I think they were much ahead for the times he lived and wrote this book in.
