Well written. The characters’ emotions were conveyed in such a way that made you feel like you were right there with them feeling the same things. This was a solid story with an apt ending. Thoroughly enjoyed it! I will most likely be reading this again.
Thanks to Edelweiss for an early review copy! I was immediately hooked from page one of this novel about a battle-scarred actress starring in a new play, the woman who co-founded the theater, and the enigmatic man who stands between them. The perspective flips back and forth between talented, fiery Kira and cool, bitter Joanna. Temper is also the name of the play, and the leading man, Malcolm, is the other co-founder of the theater. The way I'm describing it is nowhere near as intense as the story itself. Kira's past unwinds as she digs further and further into the role of Mara, the woman wronged at the heart of the play. Anger is a boiling, intense theme throughout, with minor but influential side characters dancing around the trio like a Shakespearean ensemble. I cannot recommend this book any more. My favorite theater book since M.L. Rio's IF WE WERE VILLAINS.
unhinged, horny theatre people, who all have horrible character traits and definitely need to go to therapy, produce a small-scale play together and have a go at each other while tensions are running high. for about the first half of the book i was kind of bored, thought the story was bland and had already been told before, felt the drama was quite overwrought. then the book started to really emotionally engage me because those people were honestly so TERRIBLE and it made for an enraging and fun reading experience. it also went out with a bang!
so, while i thought this book wasn't as good as Layne Fargo's newer book, [b:They Never Learn|50892240|They Never Learn|Layne Fargo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1600611054l/50892240._SY75_.jpg|69857478] (which i LOVED!), i'm still glad i read it and, after a while, enjoyed my time with it.

This book was a wild ride! The dual narrator structure added a new dimension and left the reader questioning how events and moments actually happened - if they happened at all. There were themes of dedication, artistry, control, and victim-attacker all blended together in a psychological rollercoaster. It had a similar tone to Black Swan in the setup of an actress getting her breakout role and questioning her abilities.
