another murakami book. as always with murakami, he has very interesting things to say about men and nothing of much value to say about women. i think i keep coming back to him because of the timbre and cadence of his writing - it’s the same way my brain sounds in a spell of rumination.

Vond dit absoluut een leuk boek, kwam er makkelijk doorheen en de verhalen zijn een goede lengte! Ze hadden mooi veel variatie maar toch een rode draad met elkaar en ik vond Murakami’s schrijfstijl ook heel fijn en engaging lezen. Niet levensveranderd goed of diep maar goed!

I'm settling on a 2.5-star rating for this collection.
I went into this hoping for something profound about missing companionship, maybe a quiet melancholy. And while there were definitely some sweet, poignant moments scattered throughout, the stories felt... well, pretty entitled, even veering into misogynistic territory at times. It wasn't quite the depth I was looking for; some parts felt a little forced, like they were trying too hard to be something they weren't.
It's got me wondering if maybe I just started with the wrong Murakami book, but for now, this one left me feeling a bit meh.
