For the most part, I loved this book. They both so sincerely just wanted a better life after escaping years of slavery. But I'm going to say something out of character for myself and something that will be the minority opinion.
There was too much sex.
There. I said it. Yes. I know what Ruby Dixon writes. Yes, I know what the rest of the books in this series are like. But for her background as a sex slave I would have liked more work on trust. And he completely violated that with his continued lies. They did some good communicating around that, but there was still too much focus on intimacy. And making her weapon train nude was completely insensitive.
And I still don't understand the bit about making her purr.

Very cute, very hot. I'm glad that there was a plot, but it wasn't too plotty to get in the way of the campiness of the romance. Neither of the main characters had any braincells, but they made up for it with their cuteness and tragic pasts. Also, very happy that this wasn't insta-love!
Hilarious and spicy
I laughed so much in this book, it was delightful. A story about healing and trust and learning how to cross the divide of cultural differences...when one person is human and the other is a cat alien. Fun side characters, lots of spicy scenes, ruby dixon never disappoints.

The Risdaverse series is a comfort read for me with big, sweet, usually misunderstanding males and human women that need to go through their own growth usually too. I appreciated that When She Purrs has main characters that have both experienced slavery and deal with the aftereffects of those times. This one had culture clashing, humor, angst, a bit of suspense in places, and slow burn steam. I loved, loved, loved their HEA and that there's not just an extended epilogue but a second even more extended one. No ow/om drama, neither were virgins, bc not needed.
