Scott Pilgrim is a 23-year-old slacker in Canada. He is part of a mediocre rock band called Sex Bob-Omb and is scandalously dating a high school girl, Knives Chau. He lives with his gay roommate, Wallace, who frequently criticizes him for his life decisions. After multiple dreams featured a colorful-haired girl, Scott sees her in real life. She's American, broody, and can travel through the subspace whenever she chooses. After Scott tries to meet up with her, he kicks off a challenge from her seven evil exes for her love. The first is Matthew Patel, who initiates a video game-style fight to the death with Scott. This book acts as the introduction to the wacky, stylized world of Scott Pilgrim. It is funny, extremely well-illustrated, and presents a unique and interesting story. Given some more adult content at points throughout the story, I would not recommend anyone below middle school read this book. Scott's story can be a great read for anyone of the appropriate age though, and I recommend that after completing this one to continue on with the other volumes of the comic as well.
Needed something light after my book hangover from [b:A Little Life|22822858|A Little Life|Hanya Yanagihara|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1446469353s/22822858.jpg|42375710] and figured since the title of this volume is so close, it fit the bill!

Always been a comfort film of mine. Can’t wait to read the rest
This was so funny. I laughed out loud more than once and definitely enjoyed it more than the film (and I love the film!).
Can't wait to read the next volume!

I'm reading these again after the movie. I am even MORE convinced that Michael Cera is not a decent Scott Pilgrim. And I am re-impressed with how accurate so many moments in the movie are.
These books are just so fun, whimsical and enjoyable to me. I never lived in Canada. I wasn't an indie kid when I was young but I knew a lot of these people and I had some of these moments.
These books make me smile every time I read them.
