Josh hires a private London Eye capsule on New Years Eve to propose to his long term girlfriend. A magical atmosphere, holiday spirit is running high and two people who are madly in love are about to take the next step in their relationship. There is absolutely nothing that could spoil this special moment! ⁣

Absolutely nothing except the potential bride saying: “No!” Okay I mean it is not the end of the world right?! Wrong! What is worst that the love of your life refusing to marry you? The love of your life confessing that she has been cheating on you after refusing to marry you. Unfortunately the same love of your life is also your bosses daughter. Unfortunately the same boss is also the owner of the flat you live in. Yes by the time this god forsaken London Eye capsule touches the ground you have lost the love of your life, job and place to live. Who said the London Eye rides are boring? ⁣

The Flip Side is an easy, somewhat funny read. My problem with this came in the second half of the book. The ending and climax of this book are rushed and sloppy. The writing is okay but nothing special. I get that this is Bailey’s debut novel but this is definitely nothing to write home about. The premise of the story is interesting and sets this book to be at least slightly intriguing, however the rest is very predictable and repetitive. ⁣

I would recommend this to someone who just wants a quick read and needs to catch up on their goodreads reading challenge. That someone is definitely not me

A cute little story! Josh proposes to his girlfriend of four years on the London Eye on New Year’s Eve but she says no. He decides to leave it up to fate by flipping a coin to make all his decisions. There is plenty of humour in this story, a little predictable but a quick and easy read.

let it be known that I only listened to this because Jonathan Bailey narrates the audiobook

Welcome back to another review in the series of "Amanda reviews books labeled Romance that are not actually Romance"

On the back of this paperback it is actually labeled FICTION. Just Fiction. Which is what it is. However, Amazon, Goodreads, and B&N have this categorized as Romantic Comedy. ROM-COM. Comedy, yes. Romance - NO! In my opinion, for a book to be romance, the main point of the plot needs to be the LOVE STORY.

This book is an enjoyable read, it just is mis-categorized. Unlike my previous non-romance book review this one was funny, engaging and I really liked it. I lost count of how many times I snort laughed. It is very British, which I usually enjoy. I think the humor is very dry and sneaks up on you. So overall it's a good book.

The plot could be described as "Josh's horrible, no good, very bad year". Poor Josh starts out his year in a terrible way and decides he can not be trusted to make his own decisions so he is going to flip a coin all year and see where it takes him.

This book is a comedy of errors, if you like that kind of comedy, this book is great. Nothing goes right for Josh until over halfway through the book. He bumps into our love interest Lucy. It is a very brief encounter, and then we don't see her again until approximately 75% into the book. While the Lucy plot line is adorable it is not the point of the book. The book is about a terrible year in Josh's life, what he goes through and where the coin takes him. This is what I like to call a JOURNEY book. The whole plot is a journey of Josh. But it is basic FICTION and not ROMANCE.

Overall I liked it. I love British books and humor so that is my taste, I know it is not for everybody and I hope this review helps you.
