This book had some fun moments, especially in the first third or so. The protagonist, Josh, gets his heart broken when his surprise NYE proposal prompts not only a refusal but an admission of cheating, and this leads to his loss of the job and apartment that his girlfriend and her family supplied for him. He moves back home and mopes, while also making a resolution to make decisions based on coin tosses for a year. During this time, he competes at pub trivia, goes on bad dates, and sets off on a wild goose chase to find a girl that might be his soulmate. Some of the bad dates and life mishaps got a little too cringe-y for me, and some of the humor wasn't really my style, but all in all, it was a quick read. I'd give it 3.5 stars if the system would let me.

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for a digital ARC for the purpose of an unbiased review.

Like a Richard Curtis film in book form. Not remotely challenging and a little predictable but very satisfying.

The flip side is an adorable rom-com following Josh as his proposal is rejected on New Year's Eve. This leads to a list of things going wrong in his life and this leads him to make the resolution of flipping a 50p coin to make every decision he has to make for a whole year. This leads him to some interesting places and leads him to moving on and finding new love. I thought this was an amazing concept for a book, leaving all decisions up to fate? what could lead to more chaos? I found reading from Josh's perspective really fresh and new as I haven't read many rom-coms from the male perspective. I loved watching him travel around Europe and seeing all of the destinations he visited had me itching to get on a plane and visit some of them! I guess that will have to wait for the moment. His love interest was fun and although for most of the story we don't know much about her I was really rooting for them. I loved that this followed Josh for the whole year and we get to see how much life can change within a year. I think reading this towards the end of this year was just the perfect timing it feels very suited to this time of the year. I enjoyed all of the side characters and thought that their team quizzes were a super cute and fun element to the story. Overall I really loved this and would love to pick up more from James Bailey in the future.

A sweet, cliched, easy to read romance. Love that it’s told from a male perspective as often rom-coms have a female narrator. It was a little unrealistic with just the right amount of cheesiness.
Bonus points for the audiobook being read by Jonathan Bailey
