This was a three and a half for me. There were some clear problems--the build of Josh and Lucy's relationship being way too fast, Pap's passing having no lingering impact in the story, the premise being kind of stupid. I also had trouble with some of the shenanigans throughout the book (you know the stuff I'm talking about,) which came across as too easy. I also didn't like the transition from the Jade scene to the ending, which was really abrupt. On the positives, though, this was a quick read with distinct characters, although they didn't seem to have much depth, and actual ending scene was well conceptualized. The cheesy naming I also just cannot abide. Overall, it was an overall enjoyable read--just not one whose execution was especially elegant.

Flipping a coin to make major life decisions? At this point, yeah, count me in! Josh has this brilliant (I think) idea after he's had maybe the worst day of his life. After a failed proposal, a cheating scandal, and having to move back in with his parents, Josh has given up on his ability to make good decisions. Enter, the coin. Now, he doesn't have to stress about a decision for a whole year- and he's just going to see where the coin takes him! The beginning of this book was kind of depressing- every bad thing that could have gone wrong in Josh's life, did. Then at the halfway point he meets his dream girl! Finally, some happy news! Oh wait, he loses her and doesn't know how to get in touch? Bummer. He goes on the adventure of a lifetime to search for her- and it's not without it's faults. The writing and sarcasm in the characters goes a long way, and I found myself laughing out loud in many situations. HEA and some sassiness thrown in for good measure? That's my kinda book! If you're looking for a little steamy romp, this is not the book you're looking for. All joking aside, this is a cute fun romance that will make you believe in love again!
This was a sweet story, but it just did not pack a big punch for me. I will easily forget this book. The main character has a rough go at the start, but by the middle I was more just tired by him holding himself back. I enjoyed his friends more then him. I could use a book that focused more on the friend group.

Cute story. The author writes in such a way that kept me guessing, which was fun because the story could be a bit flat otherwise.

I loved the idea of this book, but it took me too long to read it felt so slow. I was intrigued just enough to keep reading and find out what happened to Josh, and am glad I did. I liked how the book ended, I just felt like there were so many unimportant things in the middle. I liked how the story was told from a male perspective, as I feel like so many of these stories come from a female point of view. All in all, if you want a quirky, fairly cute, and mindless read, I'd recommend it but not if you're looking for something deeper than that.

DNF at 43%, I should have realised when it was described as the laugh out loud comedy of the year.
Josh thinks he is living his best life, living and working with his girlfriend. Then he proposes and she says no. Suddenly his world falls apart, he's out of work and back living with his parents. Disappointed with his life choices Josh decides to live his life on the flip of a coin (like the Diceman).
I think this sort of novel works better in a bigger, American setting, or maybe with a more likeable MC, generally Josh's decisions are things like should he go on a blind date set up by his mum, or should he go to the pub quiz, or to his ten year school reunion - nothing earth-shattering or, frankly, interesting. He's jobless, clueless and more like a 13 year old than a 28 year old man. He meets a girl randomly in the National Gallery, fails to find out anything about her and lets down his friends. I just didn't like him and didn't care whether he turned his life around. I didn't find it funny, I think it's like Marmite or Father Ted, you either love it or loathe it.

Bumped for release.

Honestly, I went for the audiobook because I was craving more Jonathan Bailey content after binging the second season of Bridgerton and he read this with his usual impeccable greatness. This is a romcom from the male protagonist's POV, written by a male author, so I was actually really looking forward to diving into this story.
We follow a guy named Josh during a year of transition, at the beginning of which he gets dumped by his longtime girlfriend and is at a complete loss about which direction his life is supposed to go. He decides to flip a coin everytime he comes at a crossroad, to the dismay of his two best friends.
I have nothing to say about Josh's growth and personal journey, because I think it was done in a realistic (albeit comedic) way. The big flaw of this novel, however, appears to lie with its romcom side. I think it was a little too far-fetched and I was a bit over it by the end of the book... It's not bad per se, but it is something I could have done without, which is an odd thing to say about a romance novel. I still liked it, but I didn't love it, is what I'm trying to say.
