I really enjoyed this read! The single parents mashup was insanely cute and I do not think I have read a femme dom/male sub in a long while so that was a refresher!

Overall the romance ended up being sweet, even if it felt like it took a minute to get there. But I would definitely recommend this read!

The EDS and chronic illness rep almost made me cry at times but I think it was so beautifully written.

Thank you Dani Galliaro and Happily Booked PR Team for my advanced reader copy! This is my honest and unbiased review!

🌶️🌶️🌶️
Things that I loved:
  • Jack (big, scary, tattooed hockey player) being more submissive in the bedroom
  • The chronic illness representation (Ehlers Danlos, Pots and MCAS)
  • Them being two emo millennials! Absolutely loved the emo band references 👌🏻🤘🏻
  • Their relationship, honestly. It's refreshing to see a romance from the perspective of 2 divorced parents in their mid-thirties.
  • The epilogue! Even though it was really short, it's an epilogue about '20 years later' and I feel like way too few authors do this. It was refreshing.
Things I was not a big fan of:
  • The dirty talking was at times a little clunky
  • The whole stabbing of Bryce thing? It felt unnecessary. Like, okay, Jack has some anger issues, but this whole thing felt a bit forced to make him more 'morally grey'.
  • At the end Sydney has suddenly seen the light that she's a shitty parent? People like her generally don't suddenly have a change of heart without any explanation.
  • The ending felt a little rushed.
Overall, sweet and spicy, single parents, marriage of convenience book, with a dash of fem domme.

Ok

So, this had good parts but was missing things that would make it great. I liked the light femdom we got to explore with the characters. I like the marriage with benefits but no love concept. But this was supposed to be about 2 single parents with 4 kids between them, and there wasn't enough of the kids. The free time the parents had felt disingenuous. Also, I got a major ick factor with how Jack acted at the kids(5 years old and under) hockey practice. He was that creepy parent who doesn't accept that the kids are still babies, and it's just a game. The way he acted toward his daughter really made it hard to like him. Also, the weird 3rd act violence act towards Mara's ex was so over the top and out of place for the rest of the story. I really wish there was more of a family focus with them delving into their kinks while falling in love. I don't know if I will read anymore in this series.

A Heartfelt Romance That Hits All the Right Notes

Dedication: For those who know a morally gray angry man is just a brat who needs to be tamed. For the chronically ill folks out there just trying to hold it together, especially my EDS cronies
and
For the emo kids who were coding songs into your MySpace profiles It was never just a phase, Mom

Dani delivers yet another stunning romance with Unthinkable, a story that’s equal parts heartwarming, emotional, and utterly addictive.

This story delivers a heartfelt slow burn with an engaging premise. Mara’s health journey is handled with such authenticity that it makes her character incredibly real and relatable. The children in this story? Absolute scene-stealers—every moment with them is either heart-meltingly sweet or laugh-out-loud funny. And the romance? Pure perfection. Jack’s devotion to Mara, the way he supports her and loves her kids as if they were his own, will have you swooning non-stop.

However, I gave this book 3.5 stars because I felt something was missing. The emotional depth could have been explored further to make Jack’s internal struggles feel more impactful.

If you love heartfelt, emotional sports romances with swoon-worthy heroes, strong family themes, and plenty of heat, Unthinkable is a must-read.

I received an ARC copy and wanted to leave an honest review.

If you love
💫 Hockey Romance
💫 Marriage of Convenience
💫 Chronic Illness and Mobility Aid Rep
💫 Single Dad x Single Mom

Congrats to Dani on such an amazing job with book 2! I freaking loved it. Both Mara and Jack were such amazing characters. Both had been hurt from their previous retaltionships and they have been trying to do their best with the hand life dealt them.

Mara struggling with her mobility illness as a single parent. Trying to juggle health, parenting and pretty much trying to survive. Then you have Jack. Completely emotionally closed off. After getting his heart stump on by his previous marriage he now lives his life to make his kids happy.

When faith puts them in a situation that could be beneficial for both of them, not only will they both realized that their kids are not the only thing they have in common. Mara will be the safe space that Jack has been craving and Jack will be by Mara side in sickness and in health regardless how hard life gets. But can she be with someone that is not willing to love again? Or will that be a deal breaker for her?

Oh man this book was a rollercoaster! I think the only reason I’m not in love but like the book is because of the back and forth on I trust him but no you really don’t. You accepted what he said but also you really didn’t. That’s ok though, otherwise this was a very solid book. 😍

I enjoyed the storyline of these two and their friendship at the beginning. That was probably my favorite part plus the way they just count on each other. Every time Jack interacted with the kiddos? Swoon worthy 🥹 so cute really. I recommend if you’d like a very sweet hockey romance. 💙

Perfection is the word that comes to my mind after reading Jack and Mara’s story. Jack just proves that the grumpy protective man is always top tier and sometimes he needs someone to take care of him. Mara is that person and I loved how she took charge we need more femdom and them learning together was perfect. One thing I will say no matter what the communication with these two was top tier they were very honest with each other even when it was hard. My favorite was Jacks vulnerability after everything he went through with Syd it was refreshing to see him start to open up more.

This is a part of the Ohio Rusties series but the majority of the story takes place when Jack was with the LA Princes (Unintentinal Puck Bunny Series) leading up to him going to Ohio. You do not need to read the previous series to understand this story but I recommend just for background I only read Puck Money of the series and I loved it and understood Jack’s relationship with Syd.

🤎The last time I fell in love I lost myself. I couldn’t afford to do that again.
🤎It wasn’t that Jack couldn’t love me. It was that Jack was so scared to be loved again.

Jack is more than a hockey star. He's a single dad and utterly devoted to protecting those he considers his. When his kid and her best friend get in trouble at school, Jack gets to meet the other kid's mom, Mara. She's also a single parent, balancing some chronic and invisible illnesses, and Jack can't help but feel like he needs to help. As the two get to know each other, he realizes he can do more than be a friend and proposes a marriage of convenience. He gets trustworthy childcare and a supportive partner, and Mara gets stable finances and good health insurance. The only thing he can't promise is love. Against her better judgment, Mara accepts, determined to worm her way into Jack's heart. Will the grumpy hotshot let Mara in, or is he doomed to never have the one thing he really needs?

If Dani Galliaro writes it, I'll read it... and probably give it 5 stars! Though this is the second book of the series, it takes place both before and after book one. It sounds confusing, but there's very little overlap; it's basically an interconnected standalone. Jack and Mara are the bee's knees. She's walking a tightrope between her own health and her children's security, while Jack is dealing with his awful ex and her penchant of chasing away nannies. Despite their arrangement being born out of necessity, it becomes all-consuming, and I loved every minute of it. Jack needs someone to take away his control in the bedroom, and Mara is just the girl. The way he protected his family? *swoon*

many thanks to happily booked pr and the author for this arc

yall know i love a marriage of convenience / “my wife” moment and this fully delivered. i found the chronic illness rep to be so nicely woven in and quite informative. it was single parent perfection (Hazel 5ever) and i really loved how Jack always supported Mara, even to the extreme ;)

the spice exploration was fun to read as someone that usually doesn’t see a lot of men in that submissive role in books. Mara and Jack really complimented each other well and it was great to be back in the Ohio Rusties world. if the next book revolves around the couple i think it does i am fully sat and ready so pick up the first two before the third comes out!
