This book might have an unsatisfactory ending to some because of the lack of clarity in the early works of Dostoyevsky, however, the book extracts all the things a good book should: self-awareness, introspection, and empathy. You will often feel bad for Golyadkin, and then want to shut the book and hide when you experience some embarrassing error he has committed. You do feel bad for him, and somewhere in the middle of the book question how real Golyadkin’s reality can be. How crazed would we feel if one morning we awoke and met with our double? The suggestion that interprets the doppelgänger as a figment of imagination makes much more sense towards the end and resolves the issue to an extent. However, the ending still leaves much to be wanted.

If all extroverts and Allistic people were forced to read this the world would be a million times nicer for autistics and introverts. Not quite at the level of my favourite Dostoevsky's, but he is quickly becoming my favourite author 🖤

I found the ending pretty harrowing. I liked the attempt to get the reader in a weird mental state. But I found it somewhat difficult to really get into this short read. I liked it enough. I think I would've liked a little more depth and interrogation. But hey, is Dostoevksy--who am I?

Started reading for a few reasons: 1) The movie "The Machinist" with Christian Bale was based on this story 2) I'ma a fan of Dostoevsky 3) very short; less than 140 pages.
