It's good. It's really good. It's witty and articulate. I'm not sure the main plot is totally believable but works well for creating very believable characters. The mother role is so different but so important in so many different cultures.

This book has so much going on. Lots of ideas to discuss about relationships, motherhood, transitioning (and detransitioning), family, allyship... I should have maybe slowed down to digest it more. You could probably do several book club meetings and still not cover everything.
I am not sure how I feel about Katrina, her mixed-Asian identity, and her overall character in the book. Maybe I'm too sensitive?

This book is filled with so much pain, veering into numbness. Very nuanced portrayal of trans characters and their psychology, though it reminds me too much of Nevada by Imogen Binnie at times. The plot is meh, felt like all of the characters just took a big circle detour and arrived back at exactly where they started when the book finished, with nothing changing at all.

I've really learned so much about the struggles of being a trans woman, and I'm grateful for this understanding. I'm so happy I learned all this from this lovely, well-written novel. I really wanted to be able to connect with it 100% on an emotional level, but I just couldn't. Some things were a little too messy for me to feel comfortable. I know it's just a personal preference, not a quality issue.
