This is a truly unique novel, and for that reason, one I am having some difficulty reviewing. It’s sprawling and messy, but also heartfelt and endearing. It centers trans characters and experiences, in a way few other books have, which alone makes it wonderful. But those characters are also complex and messy, sometimes in ways that are frustrating. The ending is also a bit anticlimactic in that it lacks a climax. Normally I don’t hate inconclusive endings, but the lack of an even a general direction of where the characters are headed was a bit of a let down after becoming so invested in them.

This one gives me mixed feelings, on one hand it's my first book that narrates any trans POV, and not having any personal trans friends or acquaintances means I'm coming in with a lot of ignorance. After reading it I read a lot of others reviews too. I have vaguely mixed feelings, on one hand I feel like it was a pretty decent introduction to some new concepts and perspectives but I also found the dialogue sometimes either overly preachy or it felt like it was unrealistic and idealistic. Looking forward to reading some more and seeing how this writing compares to others that may not have as many negative reviews.

3.5. As life is quite messy, so was this novel. I believe the subject should be discussed more and understood.
would definitely read more from this author but the main focus of this book being a pregnancy didn’t appeal to me (my fault for picking it up). still very well written and enjoyable

This book was emotional, provocative, all about all types of relationships, raw, painful, almost obsessive yet also nearly endearingly human.
