Having read Peters' other work, I had high expectations for 'Detransition, Baby', which I think were ultimately met. It goes without saying that the premise of the text feels entirely distinctive, and I think the exploration of these rather specific identities and experiences makes for such an interesting read. The narrative did feel a tad vague at times to me particularly because of the time skips, but that aside, the text was very well executed and explored some topics relating to queerness and family I had yet to come across in a novel.

This book was so easy to read I couldn’t put it down. I like the philosophies of both characters and their perspectives. I learned a lot but the characters felt so relatable at the same time

Detransition, Baby is deeply queer and weird and beautiful. Mostly, this is a story about how we, as queer people, carry the burden and privilege of redefining family and love, but it's also a global story about the messiness of being this age: the relationships we foster and sabotage, the decisions we make that our friends and families don't understand, subscribing to progressivism but wanting to fulfill the same ideals that tortured us all our lives. Read this because you’re queer or because you’re not.
