Detransition, Baby is deeply queer and weird and beautiful. Mostly, this is a story about how we, as queer people, carry the burden and privilege of redefining family and love, but it's also a global story about the messiness of being this age: the relationships we foster and sabotage, the decisions we make that our friends and families don't understand, subscribing to progressivism but wanting to fulfill the same ideals that tortured us all our lives. A messy book about messy people that sprawls yet holds you close - it’s a testament to the author that I so enjoyed the book and its characters when they were often as unlikable as the women from whom Reese draws her Sex and the City theory. I would have liked spending more time with them, but I’m surprisingly happy not to know what’s next.

An incredibly smart novel that is engaging and complex and whose characters are so vivid that I often forgot it was a work of fiction. Enjoyable, thought-provoking, and just damn good writing.
