This is such a beautiful, intimate, messy, enlightening story. The author gives us incredible access to the inner lives of these characters. There’s the big things that happen, but then there are these passages about everyday life or feelings we all have that are so sharp and clarified. I liked how it ended because life be like that sometimes. The parts where she describes the funerals of trans girls and when Ames goes to the batting cage with his college baseball buddy are just some of the most beautiful prose I’ve read in a while.

i LOVED the writing; peters is a genius. i couldn't put this book down because i just loved her style so much. it was fun and playful to read, but was also striking and heartbreaking when needed. the characters are all problematic in their own ways, which i guess makes them more realistic, but i couldn't help but hate reese for what she did, sorry.

Detransition baby was such an interesting exploration of what being a woman and motherhood means.

I enjoyed that each of the women were flawed, complex characters and the insight into the experiences of trans women.

Some moments I found myself entirely frustrated with each of the characters and other times I was picking sides. I enjoyed that things weren’t conveniently and neatly packed up at the end and it felt like just an insight into the actual lives of these characters.
