I loved the beginning so much. Especially the art descriptions and how art and art history were used in the plot. Loved the setting and atmosphere. I really liked Nicole, her family and friends. It‘s refreshing to have a protagonist with a community, not just an isolated heroine. Also, points for casually including queer side characters. And I was very intrigued by the mystery around Nicole’s mother. But then the romance plot took over, and I got bored. I didn’t really feel the chemistry (not a fan when it's just fueled by desire) and was annoyed by the end of the book. Annoyed by the characters, the dialogues, and the way the plot was mostly dropped to make room for a pairing I didn‘t care about.

Half a star deducted because I was a bit confused by the creatures and how the supernatural world works.
But besides the confusion, I came to love the book. The story is great and the tension building up consistently. Not a dull or boring moment.
I am in love with Nicole, her family, Remi and of course Callum and Kyan. The whole set of characters is super intriguing, funny and lovable.

The story is well thought through and all in all it gives me kind of SJM vibes. While I started not knowing what to expect, I finished - with a cliff hanger that leaves me hanging there of course - not able to wait for the next book!

Enjoyed the story, especially the second half of the book when the pace started to pick up.

Docked 0.75 stars because I noticed more than a few spelling errors (ie “I’ll should…” and “forefields” instead of force fields like it was written two lines earlier) and odd phrasing patterns.

I got to page 27 before I decided this book was NOT for me.

The breaking point was this paragraph:

"Nicole froze as the violence of his being shuddered over her, forcing her to stare up at his height.  He stilled in the clearing, his bare torso heaving with deep barrelling breaths; his dark hair partially braided.  Blood spattered in frantic handprints over the brush of hair on his chest, like someone had either gripped him for help while dying, or to try and stop him killing them."

Not my kind of book.

It was a good easy fantasy read. I enjoyed the characters and the slow burn. The plot was interesting and I love when books focus on something quite rogue (in this case art history).

Really liked the story idea but the writing is soooo boring.
