This book was on my newbery medal list and my 4th graders had to read it for school... win win! This is a great book for the age where kids start to realize everything isn't always wonderful in the world and if you have persistence and resilience something good may come out of it! Very enjoyable read and allowed for great conversation!

Only read it b/c it was the required reading for our upcoming 5th graders. I'm learning that there is a whole lot of "children's classics" that I never read! Shiloh is a great story about growing up -- those years where you start to notice that some things are "wrong" but you can't quite figure out why. The story will definitely keep the interest of both boys and girls.
I'm reading it in my reading class. It is good so far
3.5. Better than I expected! I've read it before, and I didn't remember enjoying it at all.
It is amazing what we will do for our animals, or animals that are being mistreated. Love this heart-warming story of a boy and a dog - then the whole family falls in love with Shiloh too.
I can't remember if I'd read this one previously. Either way, it was sweet, but not a favorite. Definitely feels like a classic Newberry (aka poor family and a dog).
Ah! So good! Peter MacNicol’s narration is excellent, and the story was simple and charming. My kids loved it.
