I read this because I never had and it's a Newbery etc etc. I expected to be troubled by the story and saddened by the outcome I expected to occur...I was surprised by everything! I was surprised by the candor and wisdom she gave to the boy, I was surprised by the turn the end took or what I anticipated to be the end (I listened to the audio book). It was simply lovely.

I remember reading Shiloh when I was in early elementary school. Rereading it from a new perspective as an adult, it’s still a good book about a boy and his dog. I don’t know if I can say easy to read though. Being from the country, it was easy for me to see and picture the places and scenarios within the book, but thinking about some of the descriptions and pieces of the book, I wonder how easy it is to understand this book is outside of that experience.

Jocelyn was not impressed with the writing. Too predictable.

I never thought YA doggy novels would be my thing, but between this and Because of Winn-Dixie I'm thinking that maybe they are.

Such a sweet, nostalgic childhood read!
