I really liked this book, I was crying (tears of happiness and hope) at the end of it.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The kind of book I would have read in one sitting if I could, and instead stuck into work so I could finish it as soon as possible. The kind of book where I breathed a lot of deep sighs and almost cried, but smiled instead. Gorgeously written.

As a PoC/bi girl, I was super looking forward to this book. I don't find a lot of representation to that degree in novels so when I do it's always exciting. This didn't blow me away but I did enjoy it quite a bit.

My main problem was that I felt the lead up was too long. The book flew by once Savannah and Leigh got together but the huge chunk of book before that definitely crawled by in places. I was really pleased with the ending for both of them and I appreciate that we don't get all the answers and it isn't all tied up in a bow. It felt very authentic.

It took me a couple of chapters to get into the writing style but I fell in love with the story soon after!

This is one of those books that I loved so much I don't know how to write a review about it. I think all I really need to say is that it's a queer latinx story with a genderqueer love interest and is beautiful and precious and definitely made me cry. There are so many good things about this. The MC casually realizes she's bi and it's not a huge deal and the MC is not only confident about her body, but also recognizes that different kinds of bodies are beautiful in different ways. There are just some lovely messages in this and the romance itself is beautiful and I highly recommend this read.

This is a book that has no major action but loveable characters. Vanni is a small town girl who believes is stuck in the small town. In fact, she believes there are only three ways were people in this townland and all return to home, except for one that ran as far as way as possible. Vanni is dealing with a lot, thinking that she is going nowhere in her poor condition and dealing with her father's Hunting's disease that Vanno may or may not have. And then she meets Lucus and Leigh. Beautiful butch Leigh. Vanni falls for the 17-year-old and then she left to come to terms with her sexuality. Is she a; lesbian or is she bi? What about the guys she liked in the past? But what about the guy she has no connection to but has sex with? But she can't shake Leigh and so she and she eventually connect in a more than friendly way. But Leigh wants to leave this small town. She moved under no choice and when she is 18 she is out of there with a plan to hop on a plane to Boston, where her Mom is. Not stepmom and father who just don't seem to get it.

What I liked about the book was the development of the characters. Vanni comes to slow to her sexuality slowly and it is not just an oh I dated a girl I must be lesbian. No instead it gave the option of a bi girl chance o emerge. And as Leigh puts it if you like guys and girls it is not impossible to be bisexual. Now, I am not trashing books featuring a woman finding out that she is a lesbian after she had dated guys, it is just a nice change of reading for a bit. Vanni apathy is very memorable about her life future.

Overall I liked the character development and how it was the focus of thsi book so thinking twice if you want an action-packed book. It is raw, emotional, blunt, and room for discovery.

I thought his novel had some beautiful moments about how confusing it can be as a young girl in this world. I thought the author made smart choices on how she interrogated ethnicity, social class, and sexuality. The characters have many realistic qualities and overcome the obstacles of being a teenager, but the overall themes are definitely for a more mature YA audience.

4.5 stars I have so much more to say but I definitely need to collect my thoughts beforehand

I understand why some people don't enjoy this book, it's completely character driven and reliant on your deep connection to Vanni's struggle, so people who love action packed plots might want to stear clear. But Podos makes Vanni a wonderful character to connect with, as we all at some point feel stuck in our lives and are acting out of routine rather than towards our best interests and goals. Vanni and Leigh's complex relationship with each other and themselves propels the story forward as they each take steps forward and back in adjusting their lives to their current circumstances.
