The first half of the book was amazing! The letters were beautiful, and I adored the banter Bri and Jacob had.

The book features your classic fake dating trope, where they eventually develop real feelings for one another. However, if you're not a fan of miscommunication tropes, then you might not enjoy the book as much. For the majority of the book, Bri and Jacob battle their own versions of "they're not into me" conflicts. While this is typical in fake dating tropes, I felt that this went on a little longer than in other books I've read. Still,

While it was a great read, I wasn't prepared for how frustrated I'd get with the main character. (This isn't a critique of Abby's writing style- more of my analysis of Bri)... Bri is very jaded from her very messy divorce, which is understandable, but I was not a fan of the self-deprecating comments & constant comparisons of Jacob to her ex. She was even projecting w/ Alexis and telling her to "watch out" and "protect herself" with Daniel (weird in my opinion), as if Alexis didn't go through her own ex-Neil! What really got me was how quickly she assumes the worst of Jacob, as if she hadn't spent the majority of the book saying how selfless and amazing Jacob is while falling in love with him!

It wasn't until we got to the final ~10-15%ish of the book were we finally got more insight into Bri's trauma. We originally thought Bri experienced a bad divorce, but it was later explained that it was much deeper and traumatic than that. I said, "Oh, that explains everything!" after it was revealed. Which, after some thought, I realized is how trauma works. You don't realize the impact of things until something triggers you, but I (selfishly) would've loved for us to have had that information at about the 50-60% mark. The new information felt like a major curveball, and with so little left to go, it felt like there wasn't enough time to dig deeper into that.

Overall, Abby does an amazing job of handling heavy backstories/histories with care and compassion! We saw Jacob and Bri show up for each other and support each other through their conflicts. 4 stars, can't wait to read the next one.

I liked the storyline and how all the characters are connected to each other.. however it made me mad how long it took for Brianna and Jacob to realize they were in love with each other! Definitely on the more emotional side compared to the other two books in the series.
