JLynn absolutely never fails to deliver! She can give you ALL the feels.
I just finished reading this last night. Like the whole night. I WANT THE NEXT BOOK. NOW
The amazing thing about this author and this book is that you feel one with the character. You feel things in the book as though you are living them. I felt everything Evie felt, most part her frustration, confusion, terror, love ,etc.
This story was honestly super gripping. I usually don't like second books in most series because they turn out a little boring compared to the first. But not this one. Ya I wasn't as big a fan of it as TDS but it was ... WOW.
I loved that we got to so much Luc! And the scenes were definitely more steamy than anything we've read so far in the Lux world.
I'm still reeling from the book, just feeling too much. There are a few spoilers below because i cant stop the rant:

I am so scared for Evie and what's going to happen to her. I don't think she can ever be normal/human now. What happened to her as we learned in the end...whoa it makes me cry. (Sort of more for Luc.. because damn poor guy blames himself)
Also, there were too many deaths for one book. Please JLynn don't kill so many characters, it's crushing me.
And as usual my heart broke for Luc and how much he had to go through, how powerless and out of control he felt.
But I'm super wary of the way it was mentioned in the book that 'they were made for each other'. That's super creepy, like were they genetically altered to love each other or what?! Obviously that won't be the case...this is JLynn we're talking about. She can write romance which makes you swoon. So fingers crossed and here's to waiting AGAIN for another year for the next book to release.

How many times can someone knock on the door right when things are getting good?! How annoying! Literally, that part drove me insane. Again? Really?
Luc was sweet and wonderful in this book. He did hit Evie with a few harsh truths though and I can't decide if I like that he was brutally honest or if it bugged me that he would upset her like that. Didn't seem to fit his MO of all things Evie. And what took her so long to fall for him? And again... why didn't she want to know more about her past? That doesn't make sense! I stand by that. Here is a boy who has known her most of her life, and she's not dying to know about her past. That's not natural. And I was SO mad annoyed at her for sticking so tight to trusting her "mom." Open your eyes girly!! And she's only been with her 4 years so I hated how she kept saying "she's the only mom I've ever known." It was 4 years!! Not 10 or 14 or 17! And she never once has any interest in who are my real parents? Come on.
We got to see some pretty cool powers come from Evie finally. Let's hope she does something good with them. And if she can't, please let her finally be unselfish enough to leave Luc and the others instead of hurt them. She needs to be stronger... for herself and definitely for Luc!

This book was a great second entry to the series. I will admit it has been a while since I read The Darkest Star, but I was able to fall back in with the characters that I felt like I had become friends with. If you are a fan of the Lux series, you will definitely see echoes of Katy and Daemon in Evie and Luc, but they really branch out in this book and pave their own way. The story doesn’t have to spend as much time developing the setting and the characters, so almost immediately you are plunged into the action. There are some moments that are slow and have to be trudged through, but the action swings back in hard, especially as you reach the end. Familiar faces from the Lux series return in new and unique ways. Evie really establishes her own as a strong character. Moments seemed lifted straight from other books in the series, but they were few and far between. Armentrout also does an amazing job at establishing a setting that is realistic to the actual places. No made up cities and states. The characters feel like they could be sitting next to you in classes, like you had been friends forever. Overall, The Burning Shadow is well worth a reread. It was a welcome addition to the series.
I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*
Well, you have to give credit to Jennifer for always keeping me on my toes and having my heart being torn open! WOWOWOWOW!
What happened? How did we go from a mystery about the true enemy back to a conspiracy and tragedy!? I have to admit that despite the slow pacing, the book dropped hints about everything and as Luc, Evie and gang tried to solve everything they realized that the enemy is everywhere.
I liked the second book; I can honestly admit that I never suffer from SBS (Second Book Syndrome) while reading Jennifer's books. The romance progressed in a hot, swoony way, there was action, wild action with fighting and both winning and losing and Evie was the one who had to discover everything in the hardest way. The ending was also a cliffhanger so I guess 2020 can't come fast enough?

What a ride it has been through this series and the Lux series. It has been such a beautiful ride, one that I will do again and again. I love all the characters that Jennifer has created, the world that she has created... I don't have the right words to tell you what these books mean to me.
The last book left off with Luc and Evie going to have grilled cheese and tomato soup made by Sylvia. The funny thing about the last book is that there isn't really any cliffhanger. There are questions that have not been answered but they, to me, were not questions that were going to kill me. I do not have the same opinion with the ending of this...

I have been provided with a review copy of The Burning Shadow through Edelweiss for an impartial review. This is the second book in the brand-new Origin series and oh my gosh I just absolutely loved getting to reenter this world. I just absolutely had so much fun getting to go along on Luc and Evelyn’s journey. I was just swept away and I just absolutely can’t get enough of this series or it’s wonderful characters. This author just has a way of drawing you in with her wonderful stories and you just can’t get enough of them. I hope there are many more wonderful stories to come in this series.

The Burning Shadow by Jennifer Armentrout is the second book in a spinoff of her Lux series. We pick up right where we left off in book one. Evie is back in school, grows closer with her friends, and ends up entangled in her relationship with Luc. Things are escalating with Luc, but he’s only giving her information on an as-needed basis, so Evie is still clueless as to what is really going on around her. The tension between Sylvia and Evie is constant - partly from Evie and partly from her distrusting group of friends. Evie finds out information about herself and has an internal struggle to really figure out who she is, and that’s a theme most young adult readers can identify with.
I love that there are more Arum in this book - I was really curious about them in book one and they become integral to the plot in this one, but in a different way from what you’d expect. The characters become more complex and well-rounded as they face challenges and some of their lives and mindsets get flipped on their heads. The main villain, other than Daedalus, is April, who goes to school with Evie and has a much bigger role asl well. Without giving anything away, she is the foil for Evie in the novel.
The pacing of the novel was fantastic. It was one crisis after another, whether physical or mental. I was always kept wondering what was going to happen next and who I could trust. I love the twists that Armentrout put throughout the book.
My one complaint is that the novel hinges on The Sage archetype and it comes at the VERY end. The Sage is someone who knows everything - is like a walking encyclopedia. Think Hermione Granger, Dumbledore, Gandalf, Yoda. People who have the knowledge to help the hero or in this case heroine figure out how to maneuver their journey. I love all those characters and I appreciate that they were there feeding knowledge throughout the whole book. This book, on the other hand, has a knowledge dump right at the very end where we find out EVERYTHING. I would’ve liked to hear some of that earlier and try to piece it together as I go.
All in all, it was a great second round to the novel and I can’t wait to see where this goes in the next book. There has to be one - that was a mighty big cliffhanger!
