Such a great, fun read! Lemony Snicket's writing style is so unique and interesting. This series is marketed at middle grade/elementary children but he treats the reader like an intelligent adult. And I love his narration! It's so fun and so easy to fly through! I love it!

I watched the show a while ago, right when it came out and I was so excited to read the book. Although I already knew what would happen, Lemony Snicket has a way of telling stories to keep the reader hooked. As a children's novel, it does not underestimate the child's knowledge and instead treats the reader as intelligent. I appreciated that since with modern novels, all of the plots are spoon-fed to the audience. It is truly a book that will stand the test of time.

I read this because I heard they were making a movie about it, looking to capitalize on the success of the Harry Potter franchise. Hence, I read it expecting it to compare to Harry Potter. It didn't. This really is for children, complete with definitions when the author uses large words. I am not saying it is a bad book for children, just that I didn't really like it, as I am not the intended audience.

I enjoyed every moment reading this! It kept me engaged and I wanted to keep reading for as long as possible. I wish I would have read this at the intended audience age but I enjoyed it nonetheless! I will definitely read more of this series.
