I loved it. I chose to read this book mostly because I adore the movie.

I feel sorry for these kids. They're orphans yet they experienced so much 'unfortunate' things. But let's just say I enjoyed reading their misery.

Can't wait to dig the second book. :)

Very humorous. I love all the meta details that Snicket employs. I remember reading this in 4th grade and loving it and I still do appreciate the humor and intelligence of the book. I feel frustrated by the plot-destined stupidity of every adult but I understand that's the point. Overall, great book. And very useful for kids for learning new words!

This one holds up for me as one of my favourite pieces of writing. Revisiting it years later, I fully credit the writing with my love of classics now. As I read it to my younger brother, the opportunities to discover new or challenging words were great! The book caused many a giggle or question with the strange tangents Lemony Snicket's writing offers. Creative and smart, I enjoyed reading about the Baudelaire orphans once again.
