I would have liked this book more if the author hadn't used that old sexist trope of the controlling fun-killing shrewish wife. There was really no need for it. It served no purpose. What really soured me was one scene where the wife bemoaned the fact that she had to chew out the school principal and yelled that Jack should have done it because he's the man. UGH. I also could not understand why Jack couldn't tell his wife about the devil/demon. Apparently, the devil wouldn't let him but it wasn't very convincing. Overall I am disappointed and annoyed.

Reading this at night made me pull my feet under the covers and away from the edges of the bed and avoid looking into the dark corners of my room. This is a super creepy possession book that will leave you feeling unsettled.

I really thought he had a chance. Daaaaaaamn

A treat. Just an absolute gem. Granted, only if you're a fan of that specific kind of pitch-black southern gothic possession tale. It reminded me (in a very good way) of films like Angel Heart and Sinister. I'm definitely coming back for more Ahlborn after this.
