If I could give this book more that 5 stars, I would. I really loved it and stayed awake one whole night reading, partly because I was too scared to sleep. As a fan of the horror genre, this is different from the blood and guts that is common. It doesn't keep you guessing because you know right away who the "bad guy" is. The horror element of this book is very subtle, as in you don't realize it's scary until you're actually scared. It has you jumping at every sound, seeing things that aren't really there and second glancing every shadow that crosses your path.

2.5 stars rounded up. I’ve been wanting to read Ania Ahlborn for a long time, and I will read more of hers, but this fell flat more than it didn’t for me. There is some very strong horror writing in here, and it starts off super promisingly, but for a shorter novel, it just about lost me half way through. With some work there’s a better novel in here somewhere. There’s nothing wrong with gore in a horror novel, but this seemed more interested in gore over character work that could have provided some depth. Also, the characters. There’s nothing wrong with a grating character, but they seemed very one note here. I don’t mean to be so negative; there were quite a few genuinely spooky moments in the beginning.

I absolutely devoured this book.

This book was dark. Dark dark. Very well written and excellently paced. The characters felt real and I can't say much here, but holy shit was this good. Dark. Other horror writers take note of this Author if you haven't already because this is how it's done. It feels cheap to call it horror because it's more than that but I can see how only horror fans could appreciate this.

Ahhh a creepy, possessed by a demon 😈 little kid is one of my favourite things of all time!!
If only it was a bit more creepier it would have been 5 stars!
But I loved how we unravel the story of the father of the creepy girl.
The scenes where she turns up suddenly so close to her mum!! Wow! I could imagine that evil look on her face!
The sense of dread and tension in this book got me hooked and on the edge of my seat!!
Now, what else had AA written? I wanna read it all!
