If you love dark, bleak horror - man, has Ania Ahlborn got one for you! This book surprised me in the best way. Since the book is so short, it is gripping and unrelenting the whole way through, quickly building tension and dread and coming to a very satisfying conclusion, imo. This is the kind of book that made me immediately put all of the rest of Ania Ahlborn's books on my TBR and want to just keep reading her stories.

3 ⭐ Predictable

Trigger Warnings: Pet/Animal Death, Murder, Gore .

Summary
Jack Winter fled his home in Georgia at an early life. Now years later having started his own family he's threatened by the sinister presence of his past.

My Thoughts
It's a predictable generational haunting. I predicted the outcome early on in the book I just kept reading to see how it would get there. The usual demonic hauntings were described. It's definitely still a creepy read but a predictable one.

Things I liked
The ending. While I knew where the story was heading it was nice to not get that happy ending of the demon being defeated by exorcism that we usually see. It kept the creepiness going.

Things I Didn't Like
The tiny sub-plot with the voodoo practitioner. I know there only so much that you can do with a possession story and it usually involves the Catholic way to when the voodoo practitioner was brought up I thought it would be an interesting add to the story but it wasn't. It added nothing really to the story.

Conclusion
Still a solid read, creepy, disturbing and great writing style to amp up the scary factor. I just wish I hadn't predicted how it was going to go. It took away from some of the fun.

the end!

The end had my literal jaw on the floor. This one I will think about for awhile. 4.5 stars for sure

Seed by Ania Ahlborn is a dread inducing, creepy tale about a family who is being followed by a demon (or the devil himself). If wicked figures hiding in dark corners that watch you when you’re sleeping SCARE you, then you should probably avoid this book. Because it gets even scarier. And that ending? Well, it was absolutely BRUTAL. Horror books like this are why I started reading and loving the genre back in 2010 and I am so glad I found a new to me author to bring out these feelings of terror in me.

Readers should be prepared going into this one that the ending will not satisfy you. It will make you sick to your stomach, fearful, and probably even sad. I wasn’t expecting it to go in the direction that it did and while I didn’t LIKE it for the characters, I thought it was very original for a horror novel. So, kudos to the author for shocking a seasoned horror reader like myself. Readers should ALSO be aware that this book can be triggering. So, make sure to check out other people’s reviews before going into it!

I really liked the writing and the setting of this book. i even liked the plot. but i wish we were given more. more background and history. i even think the same ending could have been stretched out with the same amount of mounting dread and that time could have been used to explain more. overall a good read!

Ending was unsatisfying. Loved the overall atmosphere of the story. My hackles were raised quite a bit. There’s nothing scarier than children mixed in with the supernatural. HATED the characters but I needed to see where the story was headed.
