Started off strong and I did enjoy it overall. The pacing felt off throughout; at times the tension was built perfectly but often the story dragged and it felt like I was just waiting for confirmation of what I had already predicted. The ending was fun if a bit cheesy in my opinion.

i feel like a lot of this could have been avoided if jack had been honest w his wife.

this story was so slow honestly the only reason i kept reading was to see if something was going to happen. jack somehow makes all the wrong decisions, the “twists” are short and few in between, and the author really relies on things only being slightly off w charlie in order to push the plot along (aka dead eyes and wide smile).

to me, this story is more about the failure to break generational curses rather than simple possession. and what makes it so infuriating is that jack had the tools necessary to break the cycle and save his family yet he chose to lean into his denial and incompetence for the ENTIRE fucking book.

so yeah, 3/5 stars because if i wanted to read about male failure i’d just look at old text conversations with my father.
