Opened this book and was slapped in the face with the first few pages. Although I felt a bit strangled with my feelings in the beginning, I eventually came to love the characters. I found it sad and very emotional, but it was also exciting and I couldn't wait te read another page.

I like it overall but I feel the plot could have been better. I also found some of the language to be unnecessarily crude imo. I loved Nocticadia so much and this was not as good so I was a bit disappointed.
so so good
This book was SO good. I seriously couldn’t put it down. I tried. I stayed up all night reading it because it’s THAT good.

I went into this relatively blind other than knowing I loved Nocticadia and Anathema by Keri Lake, so I was surprised that this felt more like a psychological thriller than a gothic romance (to me personally). The writing still delivered on creating atmosphere, I always feel like I am watching a movie in my head when I read her books. However, I had a harder time getting into the first third of the book, but then it really took off, especially with plot twists toward the end, but I still felt like some loose ends were tied up too quickly. I would recommend one of the other titles I previously mentioned over this as an introduction to this author
3.5
I loved the Beauty and the Beast / Phantom of the Opera, mixed with gothic romance vibes of this. I just feel that some things in the main characters pasts (seriously, check out the Trigger Warnings for this, before you read this) were used as plot devices/shock value and I didn’t vibe all that much with that

I will say the beginning sucked me in but after a few chapters there were some things that weren't working for me like the past/present chapters and how long/slow of the story's progression. I couldn't even completely figure out the main plot of the story. It was mainly a long suspense/mystery of both H/h characters background. Sadly to say, I didn't get the main attraction/chemistry between the main couple. I didn't really like anyone in the story and by 40 mins left (according to my kindle) I wanted the story to be over with. So this book should've been cut down a bit in my opinion. I'm still unsure of how I feel about the revelation. I will say Keri DOES know how to write some imagery though and painted the scenes very well. I look forward to more coming from her.
This COVER must be my all time favorite for 2020 so far!!!! Its so beautiful <3

After reading Nocticadia, I knew I needed to read all of Keri Lake’s books, and this one did not disappoint!
The book started a little slow and took me a while to get into. I didn’t immediately love the chapters that followed Lucien’s past since I didn’t know enough about him to care yet. I also didn’t like how his and Isa’s relationship went from 0 to 100 without any tension or slow burn leading up to it.
The book got a lot more exciting after the 50% mark, though! It turned into somewhat of a mystery/thriller, and I was super excited to keep reading and find out what was going to happen! The revelations were mostly surprising. I was totally shocked by the end!
