Master of Salt & Bones

I had heard this was a dark gothic piece, while I didn’t get that per se, it was a great novel. I am all about the chase and it was great, but I felt satisfied with the ending. You might be wondering “isn’t satisfied good?” Yes it is but when I finished the book I wasn’t crying, or drooling, or wishing it continued onto another book.

★4.5 STARS★

Master of Salt & Bones is a story driven by mystery and suspicion, set in a world where it’s occupants are as calculating as they are devious.

The Devil of Bonesalt, Lucian Blackthorne has a reputation that terrifies many a grown adult. Rarely seen but widely gossiped about, Isadora Quinn is as fascinated by her new employer as she is terrified. Although worlds apart, Isadora can identify to the feeling of being on the outside looking in. She too has secrets, and as scary as he may first appear, she soon sees the man beneath the mask.

Gothic in its telling, Master of Salt & Bones is a love story that cultivates in the dark. Lucian is plagued by ghosts of the past, but it’s the future he wants with Isadora that force him to excise them.

A masterfully woven tale of suspense and intrigue, Lake’s character & story building is as immense as the world she creates.

This was a solid 3 stars for me. The book was sold as dark romance which I guess is technically true but it was also crammed with a bunch of subplots that werent really fully explained or just conveniently got wrapped up in literally the last 2% of the book (murder mystery, secret society, etc). The romance wasn't really a romance as much as a close proximity "relationship" that wasnt even suppose to be a relationship according to the MMC. It did have good dark vibes and stuff but the characters and story just fell flat, even with 500+ pages

YAWNNNNNNN. For as much violence and torture in this book it was high key a snooze fest. I was interested for the first third of the book and quickly lost interest in all the characters and I feel the plot and twists were predictable and short sighted.

Also the secret club that believes sadism is genetic and so they torture people sounds dumb asf. Isa being 19 was gross to me :( I was not a fan of their relationship…like seriously lucian almost twice her age, gave me an intense ick. They kept making references to her being so small and just a girl…and then the boys she was with before didn’t compare to the MAN Lucian was. GROSS YAWN TIRED BORING. There wasn’t much development in their relationship either. Had no idea what drew Isa to Lucian, why is he so obsessed with her? This she’s not like other girls shtick was mad corny to me and is not enough to justify pursuing a relationship with a child.

Another thing that really really bothered me is Lucian. He’s supposed to be this demon barber of Fleet Street ass man with scares on his face, but he’s just a bland, boring boogeyman with too much money and trauma and not enough personality. I finished this just to see what twists would come from this and I predicted majority of this within the first half of the book. I’m not a genius, this book is just that predictable and boring. I like darker romances and themes that are kind of intense like torture and shit but this just didn’t eat for me sowwwwy. It sucks tho bc I loved nocticadia and was expected something just as good. 4/10 never again

“You’re my curse. Staying away from you, is like trying to hold my breath when the tide is rising.” His words dance around my head, the deep timbre of his voice titillating my senses. “I want to drown in you.”

Another 6⭐️ read from the Queen Keri Lake😩😩 (this is only the second book I've read by her)
This book is not talked about enough! Severely underhyped if you ask me. This book took me through a world-wind of emotions and one minute I'm crying the next minute I giggling kicking my feet. The plot was soooooo good and if "nothing is as what it seems" was a book, it would be this one!
This is an:
•Age-Gap
•Dark Gothic Romance
•Slow Burn
•BossxEmployee
•Forbidden/taboo
•Mystery
•Secret Society
•He falls first
•Touch her and 💀
Kind of book. The relationship between Isa and Lucian was so perfectly well paced it just made the pay off of the slow burn so worth it. The plot taking place is more of the forefront than the romance which I loved and there are so many twists and turns that my neck physically hurts. Keri Lake does such an amazing job setting the tone and mood for her books, and this one is no exception. Also the way that she writes the relationship AND THE BANTER?! I am on my knees for Isa and Lucian. The back stories and depth that the characters have make them so believable and tangible and you get to understand why they are such tortured souls and it makes you physically ache for them throughout the book. I also just love that the spice is well placed and not just all over the place and within this books it has more of a purpose and move the plot along instead of just being filler. God I don't think I can ever shut up about this book now. 😩💜💜

Crazy twists

This book had all the wonderful twists and turns you want from a thriller but all the smut my dark little heart needed. Such a crazy rollercoaster. Loved every second of it.
