My first book by this author was easily one of the top best books I read last year and let me tell you, even with high ass expectations, this did not disappoint!! The perfect spooky small town coastal setting paired with awesome intrigue and heart wrenching trauma. I managed to guess a few of the twists but some still snuck through and caught me by surprise which is always an impressive feat. I am so excited to continue my journey through Keri's Backlist!

I really enjoyed the first half of this but the last 60% went downhill fast for me. Too many attempts at lyrical writing that just didn't land. It felt like a chore picking this back up to finish it

Half the book so far is flashbacks of the mmc being groomed and introduced to bdsm as a teenager. That and the kink of risking your life while trying to orgasm to make it more pleasurable ain’t for me.

i have a bit of mixed feelings about this one. some parts had me so hooked i was at the edgy of my seat and others i was just rolling my eyes. overall a good read though!
also i really, really liked the quote ”i went in search of the villain, instead, and found him alone and in pain, living in a castle of bones. a darker version of my mother’s knight, whose armor had dents and cracks, and his hands sullied with blood.”

Isa is just trying to escape the town who has made her life a living hell because her mothers sins.
Lucian is just trying to escape his fathers sins and battle the inner demons of his own head.
Combined they are a match made in hell. Isa is here to help his sick mother and he refuses to acknowledge her or her pull. Until she captures the interest of a sick cult.
Will Isa make it out alive and can Lucian face his past head on?
“There are darknesses in life and there are lights. You are one of the lights.”
Obsessed. That’s the best way to describe my feelings about this book. Lucian is a scarred up man who can’t get out of his head and Isa is a girl who can escape her mothers sins. Together they are fire and complete each other in such a beauty way. The piano playing scene is very phantom of the opera and it gave me goosebumps.
