I received an advanced copy of If My Dogs Were a Pair of Middle-Aged Men from Net Galley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
If you’re looking for a funny and quick (less than 40 pages) read, then this is the book for you. There were points where this literally had me laughing out loud. Fans of the Oatmeal will enjoy it, as will anyone who’s had any experience owning dogs, I imagine.
Matthew Inman uses absurd comparisons to make even the most banal moments in day to day life hilarious. In this case it’s comparing his silly dogs to grown men (by drawing said grown men as his two dogs). Needless to say, hilarity ensues.
It’s worth noting that the Oatmeal is a collection of comics (fans will obviously already know this) that can be found online. So buying this book isn’t really necessary, but it does have the nice benefit of supporting something you love. So if you’re seeking a gift, a chuckle, a pick-me-up, or a chance to see the world in odd manners, then I strongly advise you pick this one up.

It's my bad, when I didn't enjoy the previous books I shouldn't have touched this one but I did and I didn't like it either I don't find this kind of humour (if you call it humour coz I won't) funny.
It's just not for me. Not going to pick up anything by this author anymore.

This book was around 30 pages. I'm so used to his comics being longer, though this is a small square one. But I quite enjoyed it. I used to have two dogs, and one was about as stupid as these guys, while the other actually had some brains. My family always personified them and what they were (probably not) thinking about, so I can relate. It's cute, and funny as always.
In a cute but not hysterically humorous book, a man wonders what it would be like if his dogs were middle-aged men. Thus a stream of comics replacing dogs with two chubby middle-aged men. The basic plot is that dogs, like little babies, can get away with things we would never allow in grown humans. We didn't need this comic book to demonstrate that to us; however, some of the scenes were funny. I think this book would be better in intermittent small doses, like a comic a week or day, instead of bundled in a book. But, on that subject I may not be the best resource as I feel the same way about most comics.

I generally love Matthew Inman and The Oatmeal, but this is probably my least favorite "theme" of all of his comics. It had its cute moments, but all in all, I'm not super entertained by cartoons of middle-aged men licking their own butts? I dunno - pass for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with this ARC! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I'd give it a higher rating but it was just too short & it felt like a missed opportunity for some amazing jokes.
However, whatever is in the comic strip is absolutely hilarious & I laughed out loud on multiple occasions.
Totally asking other dog humans to read this!

I've wanted to read this one for a long time because I find imagining dogs as humans (and especially gross-looking middle-aged men) inexplicably hilarious. Because I knew I'd finish it in no time, I didn't want to buy a physical copy, and thank dog I didn't. Although yes, this was funny, it was way too short and I would've felt deeply disappointed had I bought it.
It's a good, quick read if you find this kind of thing funny, but absolutely not worth purchasing (unlike some of Matthew Inman's other works like [b:How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You|15799936|How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You|Matthew Inman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1461518764l/15799936._SX50_.jpg|21523228] and [b:The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances|20926077|The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances|Matthew Inman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1395627986l/20926077._SX50_.jpg|40295140]). If you can read it through a subscription service like I did, or get it from the library, I'd suggest that instead!
