I wanted so badly to end up liking this book but it just fell so flat in so many different ways for me. The summary is incredibly misleading, this book is set in the 1920’s but it’s very surface level description.
I didn’t like the characters that much, and the narration was in an odd... third person, distant pov? The characters felt so cardbord-like because of this. The entire plot is the same scenario over and over, and frankly the lore part of this stort was not described well at all. I felt like I had no idea what stuff really meant the entire time.
Super disappointing read and I shouldve dnf’d but I was falsely intrigued by the shallow romance subplot

It was a challenge read as it wasn’t something I would normally select. I enjoyed reading Casiopeia’s growth. Martins character development was minimal but overall important. I wanted more of the yearning and the budding relationship. The ending was a good wrap up though.

It was just okay. The character development felt a bit weak and the ending fell flat for me. Very anticlimactic.
I liked the idea of the book - I read a lot of similar books based on Greek and Roman mythology, so I anticipated enjoying it, and I did enjoy learning about Mayan mythology. But the last few chapters and the ending just felt so anticlimactic. It made me feel like “now what? What was the point of all that?” Disappointing. And it felt like there were a lot of unexplained plot holes along the way.
There also wasn’t enough character development for me. Casiopea felt like not much more than “headstrong girl who is intelligent and has had a hard life.” No real character traits to speak of beyond that for the most part. And the romance felt forced to me.
